After Hours Topic Ban

I wasn't really particularly out to draw a load of negative responses from people in this topic. I think I deserved the 7 day ban but why couldn't the mods just leave it at that instead of posting up my Bebo profile, downloading photos off of it and reuploading them on Imageshack to take the piss out of them? A bit harsh I'd imagine.

I'm pretty sure there's alot more morons out there who've posted worse than a stupid spam topic on here and didn't receive a punishment as near as severe as that one.

Your bebo link is in your profile for everyone to see.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,901 ✭✭✭Twilightning

I fail to see how that's relevant to him stealing photos from it and reuploading them on another site with derogatory filenames to blatantly take the piss. If I did that to anybody in After Hours, or any other section of the site for that matter, I'd be banned instantly.

That's also not mentioning the fact that because of him posting it up there, people have come onto my profile and given me abuse, which wouldn't have happened in the first place if he hadn't have made a post.

So boards.ie's policy is 'If you troll, we're gonna troll back'?

It wouldn't have happened if you didn't make this post:
    Porn. AKA don't troll AH.
Why exactly is it full of jew dicks again?
So boards.ie's policy is 'If you troll, we're gonna troll back'?
No that's not the policy. Are you accepting that you trolled?

If I post something derogatory about somebody in a forum, would I get away with it for having the explanation "Well I wouldn't have said it if he didn't say that."? Of course I wouldn't. The same applies here. You also conveniently avoided the point I made with my previous post; if I or anybody else did what Terry did, I would have been insta-banned, never to be thought of again.

And my intention wasn't to troll the forum. Do you really think I'd be idiotic enough to do that on (most likely) the website's most viewed forum on a legitimate account in full view of everybody? Somebody in another topic it put it nicely:
I think he might have meant circumsized penis and think its kinda funny way of saying it. Might not have meant to be offensive considering the topic.

And i wonder how many people used the term Jap car that could be considered just as offensive if not more, and havent been punished?

It's After Hours for Christ's sake. I can't believe that a comment as petty as 'jew dick' was reacted to as, if not more, childishly by somebody who's supposed to be upholding order in the forum. The topic wasn't supposed to have been taken seriously.

Not sure I understand you. Are you saying that you wouldn't have made a derogatory remark if you knew that someone would have read your profile and found your bebo link?
You also conveniently avoided the point I made with my previous post; if I or anybody else did what Terry did, I would have been insta-banned, never to be thought of again.
Possibly, possibly not, it depends on the circumstances tbh.
And my intention wasn't to troll the forum. Do you really think I'd be idiotic enough to do that on (most likely) the website's most viewed forum on a legitimate account in full view of everybody?
Yes of course I do. People do it all the time. I have no idea who you are, how on earth do you expect me to know that you are completely trustworthy and you actually mean something completely different, even though your post states otherwise?

It is taken as seriously as it is taken. Trollery is in the eye of the beholder, not the original poster.

If you think that it shouldn't have been taken seriously then why do you agree that you did something bad enough to warrant a 7 day ban?
I think I deserved the 7 day ban

What I meant was if I called somebody an idiot or something else as derogatory after something they've stated, I wouldn't get away with it unpunished if I gave the reasoning "Well I wouldn't have said that if he hadn't have said <such and such> first!" I wouldn't have gotten away with it because regardless of what that poster said, me launching a personal attack on somebody by calling them an idiot is still against the forum's rules. The same applies to what Terry did. What I said might have been questionable but it still doesn't give him the authority to do what he did.
Possibly, possibly not, it depends on the circumstances tbh.
That's not really a good enough answer.
Yes of course I do. People do it all the time. I have no idea who you are, how on earth do you expect me to know that you are completely trustworthy and you actually mean something completely different, even though your post states otherwise?
If you or anybody else didn't know it was meant to have been taken differently, then maybe he shouldn't have jumped to such a conclusion and did what he did then?
It is taken as seriously as it is taken. Trollery is in the eye of the beholder, not the original poster.
So because in his own view that what I said was meant to be taken seriously, it automatically gives him the right to act in a childish manner because he thinks he's some internet crusader dishing out his own justice against a suspected troll, even though he disobeyed the exact rules set out in the forum charter, that are there to be adhered to by all members in the process? Bags of sense there.
If you think that it shouldn't have been taken seriously then why do you agree that you did something bad enough to warrant a 7 day ban?
Looking back on it now I don't really think I do deserve a 7 day ban for saying something as stupid as 'Jew dick' in a forum that's overpopulated by threads that aren't meant to be taken seriously, so I retract what I previously said.

    Bumped.

You were trolling, so I decided to make an example of you.

What I get from you is that you have spent a lot of time on /b/ and seem to think that the type of threads there are acceptable here. I'm telling you now that they are not.

Your bebo page and the pictures within are open to the public. As such you have given up any rights to those pictures and how they can be used.

Did I abuse my power as a moderator to post in a closed thread and post your pictures? You're god damnded right I did and I make no apologies for that. You were trolling and I have absolutely no time for trolls.
Now that I have exposed you and who you are, you have come here to complain. If you had have thought about what you were doing before you started that thread, none of this would have happened.

This isn't the first time you have trolled in AH either.
There were a couple of posts which were deleted by other mods.
You have also been banned from another forum. I'll be contacting the mod who baned you from there to get an idea as to why you were banned. Going by the message he left, it seems that you did something quite nasty.

If you want to troll, I suggest you keep it to /b/. It's quite obvious by your posts that you are a regular visitor there.

Just remember this; as anonymous as /b/ makes you think you can be, you are never completely anonymous on the internet.

I'll remove those links in a day or two. I just want you to remember this day and acknowledge that trolling is not acceptable on this site.

It's too bad the only way you could 'make an example' of me was in probably the most childish way possible; you did it by launching a personal attack upon me, which is exactly the sort of thing you're supposed to prevent, being a moderator and all. You tried to take the piss out of a bunch of pictures that were taken of me when I was 16 too. How old are you again?
What I get from you is that you have spent a lot of time on /b/ and seem to think that the type of threads there are acceptable here. I'm telling you now that they are not.
Thanks for the crash detective work there, Inspector Morse, but what you 'get' or don't 'get' from me is irrelevant to this discussion. You don't know a thing about me, what I do or the websites I browse on a daily basis, so maybe it's best you kept your assumptions to yourself, since for your information, I don't browse /b/. It's full of retards.
Your bebo page and the pictures within are open to the public. As such you have given up any rights to those pictures and how they can be used.
I guess it gives a guy in his thirties the right to take the piss out of photos of a teenager on a social networking site, no matter how sad it may be. Funnily enough I thought a moderator would be above the status of a troll.
So you basically have just admitted to abusing the power given to you by this website? Bravo! Also, see my previous point. You obviously do have the time of day for suspected trolls when you have to go digging around their Bebo profiles so you can steal their pictures, rename them and reupload them to a completely different site. You'd think being a moderator, and a grown man, you'd have better things to be doing with your time.

You haven't 'exposed' me or who I am? Don't know where that statement's come from, inspector. As somebody said earlier in the topic, my profile was already available for public view from the start since I willing entered it into my own profile upon signing up here.

Also, as was also previously mentioned in the topic earlier, the bull**** "This wouldn't have happened if you thought about what you did" argument falls flat on its face once again since you didn't abide by the rules when taking action over what I did, which effectively brings you down to my level. Maybe even a level or two lower. If I shoot some rapist in the face outside a courthouse on his way to trial, would I get away with murder by saying "Ah well, he should have thought about that before he raped someone!" Nah, I don't think I would. This is a simple concept you lot can't seem to grasp at all.
This isn't the first time you have trolled in AH either.
There were a couple of posts which were deleted by other mods.
You have also been banned from another forum. I'll be contacting the mod who baned you from there to get an idea as to why you were banned. Going by the message he left, it seems that you did something quite nasty.
One such post deleted by a mod was a link to a site with a picture of a coathanger in a toilet. I'd hardly call that a brilliant attempt at trolling. The reason I got banned from another forum was because I posted the link to a shock site in a post. It was wrong of me to do that, I got banned, and we all moved on.
If you want to troll, I suggest you keep it to /b/. It's quite obvious by your posts that you are a regular visitor there.
Previous point made earlier, I don't browse /b/ at all so that assumption remains what it is; an assumption. A wrong one at that. I don't particularly make it my mission everytime I log on to Boards to troll my ass off. Maybe if you look through the other threads I've started, you'll see I've made quite popular and constructive topics aswell? I guess that slipped your mind, since I know you probably just decided to assume the worst of me, and we know how you are with assumptions.
Just remember this; as anonymous as /b/ makes you think you can be, you are never completely anonymous on the internet.
Another lesson learned, right? Well, no, not really. Again, back to the previous point, another assumption. If I really had my heart set on trolling a website, I'd make sure I didn't post a link to my Bebo site before I started. It's one of the basics.
I'll remove those links in a day or two. I just want you to remember this day and acknowledge that trolling is not acceptable on this site.
I'd say me, or anybody else who's looked at that topic, will have forgotten about it within the space of a week. I know you like to think you just rode in on a gleaming white horse, crusading for justice on the internet, but in reality all you really did is make yourself out to be even worse than I was. It's amazing something as petty as the comment 'Jew dick' sparked so much controversy.

You could have made me acknowledge that trolling wasn't acceptable by banning me for a week and sending me a sternly written PM like another moderator, doing their job, already did. You just took it a step further and went to incite abuse against me over a topic that was already shut and with the starter already disciplined.

Ok. You deconstructed a hastily written post.
I'll make this one short and to the point.

You trolled AH. You admitted to trolling. I abused my powers as a mod and I make no apologies for that.
Don't troll AH and this won't happen again.

Exactly the sort of half-arsed response I was expecting. Good on you.

Oh yeah. The thread is gone now anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,901 ✭✭✭Twilightning

Why's it gone exactly? I know you didn't take it down.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,061 ✭✭✭✭Terry

    I did remove it.
I was asked to remove it by someone who wanted to look into it.
    I did it voluntarily though.

    Hmmm, fair enough.
