Primer

Have never used a primer under my foundation....actually I don't use moisturiser either (always find whatever foundation I use looks better without it, no matter what moisturiser I've used I always prefer my make up without it)....anyway been seeing a lot of mentions of primer...do most of you use it? Can anyone recommend a good but cheapish primer to get started on. I want to try one out without having to fork out €40+ for the Smashbox, Benefit etc ones. Even a Boots own brand or something first that's any bit decent to just see if they suit my skin seeing as moisturiser under my make up doesn't, I don't want to go getting an expensive one if I never use it.

    Thanks! :)

I think no 7 do a good one and shouldn't be too expensive. The best primer I have ever used and absolutely love is That Gal from benefit but it's about €33.

Good make up counters will give you little tester sample to try before you buy!

A girl in the chemist today recommended a Lancome primer for me, I was too poor to buy it but I said I'd be back for it :) She said it was only 20euro though, seemed very cheap for Lancome? Has anyone used this before?

I've used the smashbox one before and it is very good but expensive!!

I bought a gosh one recently and it does the job exactly the same!!!!

do you need a primer for anything? If you don't, then there's no point in forking out for one. I have a few of them but don't find them much use!

i dont use a primer like the OP but i do use moisturiser but doesnt matter how much moisturiser i put on more often than not i find when i start blending the foundation in i start getting dry patches.

Would this stop if i used primer or is there a particular moisturiser you find sits well underneath your foundation?

(BTW my moisturisers include Dermalogica skin smoothing cream and clinique superdefense!)

Re: the dry patches, are you exfoliating often enough? If I get lazy about my exfoliating I too tend to get dry patches when I apply my foundation. I too use the Dermalogica skin smoothing cream.
Depending on the occasion I use a primer. I bought the Smashbox recently enough and find my make up looks much better as a result and looks good for longer. I also find the Beauty Flash Balm makes my make up look great and last a long time.

I just figure if something makes your make up look better why not give it a go. Probably from hearing people go on about it too I'd like to give one a go just to see if there's much if any difference.

    Thanks for the info!

Guilty as charged! i use the dermalogica microfoliating stuff when i remember to! Have really sensitive skin so tend not to exfoliate too often!

Try the GOSH one, it's very similar to the Smashbox one but it's around €12 I think.

I have super sensitive skin too. Have gotten into the habit of using the Gentle Cream Exfoliant once per week, then I follow this up with the Multivitamin Power Repair Mask and after that the Skin Hydrating Mask. This leaves my skin feeling and looking great and without any of the harsh effects other exfoliants have have on my skin in the past. Give it a go, you'll really see the benefits.

Cheers....think I'll give the GOSH one a go first off anyway! :)

You can also buy a trial size version of the smashbox one, I think it's either a 10 or 15ml size, for around €15.

It lasts ages and is dead handy for travelling!

If you ever happen to be in Paris, go to Sephora - god I would spend hours in that shop! the one on the Champs Elysee is just bloody great. Sephora do their own brand of virtually everything and it's excellent - they have a great primer and I think it was only €9 but you can't shop sephora online :(

Agree with everything you said!! :D

Also the pore minimiser stuff by Clinique is amazing under foundation....skin feels like silk with it!! It is about e20-23 I think!
