Fed up with Sky

I recently rang Sky to add the movie package and lo and behold they said they couldn't add it on as I had a half price HD sub for 6 months which I would loose if the movie package was added, I told the person that I was speaking to that's ridiculous and she said that there's nothing they can do about it. So I emailed them with a strongly worded mail and as of now no reply. I'm fed up with the way they treat old customers all they care about is new ones. I'll give them another few days to reply otherwise I'll cancel. Anyone have similar problems with Sky?:mad:

Its unreal alright, the way new customers get all the special offers on Sky+ and HD boxes and old loyal customers have to fork out the full wack. Sickening

So cancel your subscription with SKY and go the Freesat route like so many others (incl. moi) have done. Not paying between €20 - €65 a month for SKY's 80% rubbish programming is a joy.

Sometimes the person on the phone can't override the system and therefore not their fault.

Maybe a professional wrote letter explaining the problem and explaining that your surprised that you can't offer x or y.

Would love to but cannot get RTE without a subscription.Thats the only reason I don't cancel. I tried getting RTE through an ariel but the picture was rubbish. Could I still use Sky+ if I did cancel?

I don't think you can use the record facility if you cancel and you definitely won't get RTE.

Also if you upgraded a few months ago you may have entered another 12 month contract so you might want to check that.

If you cancel they might send you a final settling up bill that amounts to far more than you expected.

    no .
if you cancel you loose the sky+ .

For RTE you could try getting a decoder box for the digital terrestrial signal from Mullaghanish (have a look at the terrestrial forum)

Cheers tony1. Could'nt live without Sky+ at this stage ands others could'nt live without RTE, so it looks like I'm stuck with em.

Cheers John mac, must look into the decoder box but is there anyway other than sky+ to record a programme and watch something else at the same time?

Good call might do that yet, I'll see what they reply with whenever that will be.

Yes there is, get a pvr like the Humax HDR that has a much larger hard disc than the SKY+/SKY HD boxes and will let you watch one programme while recording another. I think they cost about £300 sterling. Pricey I'd agree but if you also cancel your SKY subscription, this box will pay for itself within a year. As the Humax is a Freesat box, you'll also get a 7 day epg and all the ITV, BBC, Channel 4, and dozens of other channels PLUS after the initial outlay on the equipment there won't be any more monthly tv bills which in the current economic climate has to be a major plus.

Very interesting indeed. Never knew such a thing existed. I'm seriously considering getting one of these if I can manage to get a good RTE picture from another source(I'm assuming I won't get RTE through the Humax).

They got back to me by E-MAIL and told me to ring them, so I did, and no change if I want the movies I can have them but this would invalidate my half price HD sub, so I told them no I'll keep my half price HD sub, it's crazy there system won't allow them to add the movies and keep the existing offer.

How did you get the HD subscription for half price? Was this an offer a while back or something?

    Thanks,

    Pete

I told them in Dec that I wanted to get rid of the HD sub because 15 euro was a bit steep so they offered it to me half price for six months.

Are there any standard receivers with pvr abilities? All I can find are HD ones!

I have 2 Sky +'s and one Sky HD box and I was considering get rid but like others I couldnt live without the recording function which the Sky boxes offer! I could live without RTE!

So in order for me to get rid of Sky, I would need to buy 3 of the Humax HD boxes, costing nearly a grand! Are there any other options for me?
