Ballyconnell in Co Cavan which has a population of 747 but boasts 1,044 people on the Live Register. link

    How can this be possible?

well, when was the last population statistic taken?

There could be a lot of people returning to live in family homes from Dublin jobs that no longer exist.

It's probably people claiming the dole twice - could have two PPS numbers?

I read last week, it's people in Northern Ireland taking a trip across the border to collect the dole of €207 instead of their entitlement of £49

Exactly. Those dole offices don't just cover the town they are located in. They cover the surrounding countryside as well.

From what I heard on the news (so it must be true ) was that many folks from northern Ireland pop over the border and collect dole in the Republic. I'd guess it was true. Jeses, imagine if we had a united Ireland?!!!! ;)
