    Hey guys

    Sky+ In living room
    Sky Multi in my bedroom
    Sky Multi in another bedroom

I wanna get sky HD in my bedroom, Im almost 90% sure that we have a Quad LNB meaning ill have to upgrade to a bigger one, (our dish was installed YEARS ago), anyways...

Does anyone know how much Sky charge for a bigger LNB or is it cheaper to buy from ebay?

AFAIK we charge €95 for an octo lnb. Have a look on ebay and see if there cheaper.

If you ordered hd from sky direct themselves then the installer will supply the octo as part of the install.
Just make sure you tell them what you have installed when you get your call the morning of the install, I'm not sure if an independent charges for them.

A bit of a rip off aye, considering satellite.ie sell them for half of that price, and even cheaper on ebay

Ah lads come on if Tony can sell them at €49 and make a profit, how can ye say that €95 is not a rip off. Even if Danny B has overheads, there is no way that they could be €45 worth of overheads on one item. I think we will have to agree to disagree on this one.

So what do ye suggest i do, im gonna be calling sky tomorrow to order it, I seriously doubt the sales person will give me a price, Would she be able to tell me who the contractor is so i could call them, I want the HD set up ASAP so ill wanna order the LNB from ebay!!!!!

    You're ordering SkyHD from Sky...

I'm not sure if there is any extra charge for an Octo (I've personally not had the need yet to use or install Octos)?

I'd suggest you call Sky, tell them you want HD, mention that you'll need your Quad upgraded to an Octo, and ask if there is an extra charge for this. Take it from there.

Well im not too sure if i need it upgraded, but im sure i would! Isnt a quad standard on the dish (from about 8 years ago when i got sky)

Considering your existing setup, I'd be pretty sure it's a Quad you have currently.

To be fair the term rip off does conjour images of someone taking advantage, not so long ago someone was posting on here saying I was ripping people off. It really depends on what the supply price is and your overheads. Its an emotive overused phrase these days I feel. Thanks for mentioning me though, I really do appreciate it.

Can I just point out that you might not be comparing like with like?
An OCTO LNB for a Sky minidish is much cheaper than one for an ordinary round dish. I assume this is because they are made in huge quantities for Sky.
    See here:
    Sky minidish OCTO

    Ordinary OCTO

(Sorry, I couldn't find an ordinary one on Tony's site for comparison but this UK site has both.)

Fair enough i didn't know you were.
I was a contractor for sky and we never charged for a octo.

just tell sky, i only have connections in other rooms, sky plus multi room in two rooms, so officially did not need the octo, told them i sometimes move box to bedroom and they installed octo with the multi room for nothing

Octo LNB's from here for €20:

Depends on your conscience. Since this is below the 100-off trade warehouse price, it does make you wonder how the seller acquired them or how he can afford to sell at a loss. Also, he's selling twin white CB63R cable which, I believe, is available only from the Sky warehouse. Go figure.

I would not be so sure about that, I can buy quad lnb's for about £7.00 from a wholesaler and they are certainly not robbed. I got a couple of octo LNB's from him last year, and I think I paid something like £22 quid each for them. So I would be very careful before making accusations like that.

Yeah but he said he didnt care where he got them, I wasnt branding anyone a thief, i was merely saying that people shouldnt take risks with goods that COULD be stolen, Its fueling crime basically!!!!

Maybe you should read some of the threads above to see exactly what is being said in the thread before you start bugging me about accusing people of things!!

I didn't mention thief or say they were stolen, you did.

Your the one who said you dont care how and where he got them... From this i reached the conclusion that your turning a blind eye to handling goods that could possibly be stolen, Even said above its usual to see digital cable for sale on Ebay that is only available to Sky that is selling dirt cheap on Ebay... They are most likely stolen!!!!!

Im not saying that the goods you bought were stolen they mightnt have been but you did say that you dont care where they came from implying that you are turning a blind eye to the fact of whether they may be stolen or not!!!

I know exactly what is been said in the thread as I have made some posts in the thread as well. The thread is about the cost of an lnb and where you should buy one and how much Sky charge for them. You mentioned ebay in the opening post of the thread.

The first reply you got was for €95 which I pointed out was a "rip off" imo, we then debated as to whether or not it was a rip off. The only price comparison I made was with satellite.ie.

Then Hellboy merely pointed out that they were available on ebay for €20, another user questioned what was for sale at that price. And if you go back through the thread you will see that you are the only user who mentioned stolen goods, nobody else.

People here are only trying to help you, If you are not prepared to take advice don't bother coming on asking for it. As I have stated, I can buy these at wholesale prices from a company in the North who supply Sky equipment to independent retailers and installers, a bit like Armstrongs do down in the Republic, for prices very similar to those ones on ebay.

You reached the wrong conclusion, yes I said "I don't care how and where he got them" but I did not say they were stolen.

That eBay shop is an excellent seller with the same rep and as far as I was concerned at time of my purchase it was 100% legit. I'm not going to ask why he can sell them at that price and where he gets them from, just like I'm not going to ask how Sky installers can under cut one another, or how Aldi can sell their goods at lower prices I just shop round and go for the cheapest I can find, simple as that.

You would probably be better off letting sky install everything for you. LNBs can be cheap but then your sacrificing quality, and we looked at these in college and the quality can vary massivly!

Really, how much do you tink you will save by buying the LNB yourself. Maybe €100, but then you have to install it yourself. Cause Sky wouldn't install anything you dont buy off them!

And a warrenty or sky technition wont go near it if anything was to happen
