A new two parter started tonight about East European communism, looking at what was laughingly known as the Democratic Republic of Germany (but always called East Germany in the programme), facinating mix of tv/film/newsreel/home movies and first hand experience of talking heads.

Twas a shocking wretched little state but a few of those who struggled for better conditions before the wall came down looked back with some fondness missing its socialist security blanket.

Next week Czechoslovakia is the subject, centrered on the Prague Spring.

Saw Hammer and Tickle on Sunday night (I think it was). Some interesting stuff on it.

Missed that programme on Sat night though, is it being repeated soon?
