Low Local Radio Standards

Are local and regional radio standards around the rest of the country as low as what I witnessed today?
I usualy listen to national radio (which can be bad enough in it own right) but decided to listen to some local stuff today whilst driving around. My God!
i105-107 had a girl doing some show called, eh, Offside. So, eh, I listened for a while, eh, to see if it was, eh, worthwhile listening to. So, eh, after a while I,eh, decided that, eh, the "eh's" were, eh, getting on my tits a bit. She honestly sounded like she, eh, had no clue at all at what she wanted to say before ,eh, opening the mic. Dreadful!
After that, I tuned to Mid103 on 96.5 FM. How are this station linking to the transmitter? The entire broadcast; ads, music, presenter, and news, all sounded like a very poor mp3. The audio quality was virtually unlistenable to. This isn't the first time Mid103 have sounded this bad either.
My understanding is that the BCI expect high technical standards, so how do Midlands Radio get away with this on a regular basis?
Most of us here could stream from our bedrooms with better audio than Midlands do. Does anyone care in the BCI?

I'm back to national radio if this is what we should expect from local stations.

Well, you should listen to MWR fm on 96.1. I call it Mayo's Worst Rubbish. Absolute shyte on it most of the time. I think what yo were listening to may have been the new 4FM station. Then again some of the locals have their second otlaet on that band.Or it may have been I102-104fm, a newish young people's station broadcasting from Galway, I think. Some right gobdaws on that at times, but then they might be taking the mick a bit ! They are that type of station:rolleyes:

Im in the KFM / KCLR / Midlands catchment area.

There are days I really wish I wasn't. The standard of broadcaster on these stations is truly awful.

There is just one DJ on KFM and perhaps one on KCLR that can run through a link without it sounding over-rehearsed, or worse, completely unrehearsed to the point where it is complete stammering gibberish. The rest don't seem yet up to this standard. The playlisting is generally pretty bad too : Katie Perry/Rhianna/ "80's classic from Mr Simon LeBon & Duran Duraaan"/ The Corrs etc etc. repeat ad infinitum.

I'm apparently 20 or so years too young for 4FM, but that's what I've been tuning into recently during lunch. (I find Today fm & 2fm's lunchtime presenters equally offensive) the locals are just too poor to bother with.

I have to agree alright about Lorita Bluitt on offside. She was pretty bad today and her show is crap anyway. Althoought in sayin that I105107 is a pretty decent station. The reason mid 103 was so bad is because your frequency was wrong. it broadcasts only on 103.5 fm!

Quite an apt name for the offside presenter, she started out as a sport reporter on the big brother station i102-104 and moved over to 105-107 on launch, but she also act as Tommy and Hector's "Adele" on both versions of their show.
iRadio in general is doing a great job in offering an alternative to all these audiobook newspapers that other stations call radio. One qualm I have about i105-107 is that ridiculous tag line 'It's a radio station.' While i102-104's 'Music is i' line makes less sense. It sounds better on the jingles.

    This too shall pass.

On one of the local south east radio stations during the week a news reporter referred to a man being fined for cruelty to horses on his farm. Instead of referring to the horse as being "emaciated" he said "emancipated".
But then Gerry Ryan on national radio is even worse. On one show last week he geve out 2 factual errors and will he ever learn to pronounce "cervical" correctly.

Thought exactly the same myself ref I102-104, ie surely they are taking the mickey, if not then dear or dear!!!

As for MWR - it has always been aimed at the older audience, god forbid what would happen if either Tommy Marren or Paul Claffey(fancy coming on yet another of my money making tours) disappeared from the airwaves!!!

It has 2 other frequencies as well. 96.5 is for Mullingar which is where I was when listening.

As for Lorita, just as bad on sunday!
