simple scintillating - a nice wee £65 I had on the Brummie Mick - pity Cook threw £30 of that away!

Macklin savaged Elcock in 3 rounds, he looked a lot more fluid than he has in a long time, his timeing was spot on and he was landing good combos, seemed to carry an awful lot of power in his shots and landed a beauty to put Elcock in trouble.

I always felt that Macklin had the tools to beat both Duddy & Lee but was questioning this in the last while as he seemd to be going backwards with all the chopping & changing in his backroom team, he seems to have got his act together and looks hungry for success. Another irish middleweight in the pot, does anyone else rate him over duddy & lee?

Macklin was fantastic tonight, he looked potentially World Class !

I wasn't sure him going back to being a boxer rather than a brawler would work for Macklin(it hadn't in his last few fights), but it didn't just worked it made him look a completely different fighter.

Wayne Elcock showed his quality against Arthur Abraham, Elcock was outboxing and outworking Abraham but just couldn't handle his power, so it says a lot when Macklin does a much much better job on him.

sligobhoy that bet on Cook was stupid, Martinez was an obvious pick for me, as was Khan and McCloskey last night.

I knew it was a mistake when I saw Martinez at the weigh in.

McCloskey was a no brainer. Khan - sheesh, what do ya say - heart rulin head.

Macklin - I was really impressed from the bell. He was the only one I had a strong feelin about - thats one of the first rules of betting - if you dont have a strong feeling for it, dont do it!

Yes a superb performance by Macklin. I wasn't sure if he would win and definitely not by an early ko.

It certainly would be interesting to see him against Duddy at some stage.

Maybe I'm going over the top here but on that performance I'd fancy Macklin to stop Duddy. Duddy's new found boxing style wouldn't be much good as Macklin has shown tonight how well he can box(against one of the slickest Middleweights out there), and in a war it's a pickem but Macklin holds the greater power and would always have the option of going back to his boxing.

I'd favour him over Lee at the moment aswell, he'd be much better served brawling against Lee though.

Duddy I think is genuinely going to go down to 154 lbs, with his next opponent being Bill Lyell, who's quite a low level and a natural Light-Middleweight I suspect it is the fight to feel Duddy into the division. Combined with the fact that it's Sergio Mora who's been lined up for Pavlik next and not Duddy leads me to believe the Derry man has made a smart move.

I still can't believe Macklin used to make Light-Middleweight, he's a big Middleweight and was probably the biggest Light-Middleweight I've ever seen in his fight with Jamie Moore.

i hope macklin starts fighting at a higher level - he seems to have stagnated since his loss to jamie moore (i.e hasn't tried ot fight fighters of a higher level)
I think he could go all the way with a bit of drive.

BTW - that fight with jamie moore was one of the most exciting fights I've seen live, unreal.

I would pick Macklin to beat Duddy but not Lee.If you saw Macklin in his recent fight against Geard Ajetovic he was stunned quite a few times during the fight which raises some questions about his punch resistence. I just cant see Macklin taking lee's shots. Lee on the other hand proved his chin against the much bigger Vera, who's shots he took well throughout the fight. I do not think Macklin would be able to land too many big shots against Lee who is a lot more polished technically, in order to take him out, nor do I think he would outbox Lee.
Macklin could out point Duddy over the distance but would probably take a lot of punishment from him in the process.

elcock has always been vulnerable. i remember lawrence murphy of all people abolutely clobbering elcock and elcocks was sprawled over the ropes, and began to treat the canvas like a bed. Couple that with someone like Macklin hitting you and the recipe is there for a good KO, which is what happened.

I don't think Macklin is all that good of a boxer. Abraham was totally in control against Elcock and usually starts slow. I thought Marquez was winning some of the early rounds against him too but Abraham doesn't mind losing those rounds so I wouldn't put too much thought into Elcock winning some rounds there. Believe me, Macklin would be treated like a mug by Abraham as well.

I don't buy into Macklin being a good boxer. Remember, he was outboxed against andrew "smiley" facey who is no better than average. He's got good power and good skills but he's not a world class BOXER and someone like Andy Lee would outbox him all night.

Good performance from Macklin alright. He's by no means untouchable or the slickest boxer in the world but he is well rounded and could mix it with anyone in the division. He looked better conditioned last night than previous bouts.

i hate threads where someone is playing the "I know something you don't card" although you didn't intend on that but it is incredibly annoying to someone reading this thread if they dont see what its about PLUS it is only ALLEGED, not fact.

Sorry, wasn't thinking! You're right, we shouldn't be really discussing till we know the score.

Someone did say it was on the boxrec forum for anyone to check out, so it wasn't a 'I know something you don't know' situation from Sligo..

It could just be bull****, let's wait and see, Matthew is a good lad, so could be f**k all in it.
