Planning on going there for a quick break (possibly on my own as my friend may have to pull out) Any suggestions what to do/see? Was thinking about going up to the Reeperbahn on one of the nights to see what all the fuss is about.

Reeperbahn is the ticket... Herbertstrasse is the place to go! But my fondest memory of Hamburg is having a McDonald's happy meal in the middle of it all and having to beat away a hairy 60+ prostitute.
