David McCarthy continued to improve on his fine Collegiate career yesterday with a fine performance in the NCAA championship yesterday. Great to see a runner living up to the potential which he has shown as a youth. Definitely a star of Irish running for the future and even present with some of these performances.

Just in a follow up to the heats a very impressive run to get 4th in the final in a time of 4.02.24 considering he still has atleast 2 more years after this we could well have an Irish NCAA national champion in the foreseeable future. Well done to him an amazing run

Here's a link to an interview with him after the final:
    http://www.flotrack.org/videos/coverage/view_video/234801-2009-ncaa-d1-indoor-championships-day-2/162336-david-mccarthy-providence

What I really like is his mental attitude towards making the final, as he said most people might have written themselves off if they just barely qualified for the final!
It should also be very interesting to see how he gets on with the 5k that hes planning to run outdoors!!

Indeed! One of the top statistics providers, Tilastopaja, didn't realise this until last year when I pointed out to them that David McCarthy had produced two performances in different events on opposite sides of the Atlantic on the same day! :D
