Congratulations to Martin Fagan on breaking John Treacys Half Marathon record today in a time of 1.00.57

    1 Sammy Kitwara Kenia 1e MSR 59:47
    2 Haile Gebrselassie Ethiopië 2e MSR 59:50
    3 Dereje Tesfaye Ethiopië 3e MSR 1:00:02
    4 Getu Feleke Kenia 4e MSR 1:00:36
    5 Martin Fagan Ireland 5e MSR 1:00:57
    6 Philimon Terer Kenia 6e MSR 1:01:25
    7 Gilbert Okari Kenia 7e MSR 1:01:26
    8 Gilbert Chepkwony Kenia 8e MSR 1:02:36
    9 Patrick Stitzinger Pegasus 1e MSRNK 1:02:43

Great to see him continue his amazing form he has been showing in the last year definitely among Irelands top distance runners of all time in my opinion.

    Fagan's awesome.

I love the way he is so aggressive...always out the front and not afraid to mix it with the Africans.

It was only a matter of time before he broke the record.

agree with you about the nature of his runs..... no fear he was one of the early leaders in this race which included the likes of Geb who ended up second. He is an example that if the Africans are not feared they can be vulnerable

It'll be interesting to see what he can do in the marathon in coming years. I know its a long way off but London 2012 could be massive for him if he can stay injury free.

Any video of the race yet ecoli? Hopefully flotrack will have something over the next few days.

I know there was a live feed on this site earlier however i am not sure whether you can play them now as i dont speak German so i cannot understand the site :D
Will be interesting to see how he fairs in the worlds if not comparing him against the likes of wanjiru then even pitting him against the overhyped americans like Hall and Ritzenheim

Hall - half marathon pb of 59:43 / marathon pb 2:06:17. Don't think he's overhyped, more like the real deal.

Congratulations to him; a superb performance in a loaded field.

His 2.14.x Mara PB looks to be due for revision. What's the story with him and Berlin? Will he run a marathon beforehand, or is he already qualified from last year?

Apologies i badly phrased that they are exceptional runners i meant in terms of American mentality thinking that all there runners are new prodigies who are expected to be challenging for gold at every major race.
Still feel that if Fagan can maintain his current form he can challenge these people

    Savage running and well deserved.

I have a nose bleed just thinking about that pace (around 4.39 per mile ).

Think he's going to look for a 10k time for Berlin.

Fantastic running. Great to see a 20 years old distance running record fall.

Wonder what the RTE pundits would have to say on it? Maybe "In our day we didn't have the benefit of the Africans to pull us along to fast times". Or "Well, its ok but metre for metre David Gillick is the faster runner".

Amazing stuff - it's so great to have an irish distance runner of his caliber. Fantastic stuff Martin.

Fantastic achievement which deserves to pick up good coverage in the Irish media (but probably won't) :(

Magnificent achievement -you're right slogger - the media will probably overlook this as they're too busy reporting on the premiership or some other 'mainstream' stuff. Anyway - thats twice as fast as I can do it so I can see what an achievement it is. Well done Martin!

64.42 for Gary Thornton in the same race for 14th place, will be interesting to see how he does in the marathon.

To put Fagan's run in some perspective, he went through 5k in 14.12, while the 5k in Dublin today was won in 14.14...

Fantastic stuff been keeping an eye on Martin Fagan for the last couple of years in a recent interview he said the national half marathon and marathon records were his tagets - great to see he got one in the bag so soon. He seems very focussed and confident without been cocky. There's some good videos of him on www.flotrack.org training sessions, races and interviews.

Understanding German is of limited use on a Dutch site anyway ....

Gary is running in the Hamburg Marathon at the end of April. I think he has great potential.
