All right, listen. There's one thing you should probably understand... CAN YOU HEAR ME?!? Good.

I want you to have all the background. I'm a Doctor of Journalism. This is important, goddamn it!!!

    ---

Twenty-four hours ago I was posting on Boards.ie, in the Films section, of course... reading a thread about Christian Bale in American Psycho... hiding from the brutish realities of this foul year of our Lord, 2009.

I was telling my friend about it and, as my attorney, she advised me that it would be worth posting in.

"but", she said, "We're gonna have to arm ourselves with quotes... to the teeth!"

    "Well, why not?" I replyed
"I mean, if a thing's worth doing,it's worth doing right. This is the American Psyco dream in action.
Sh!t, we'd be fools not to ride this strange torpedo all the way to the end."

    ---

Getting hold of the relitive quotes and pictures had been no problem...but adapting them to fit into the thread and have them still sound good were not easy things to do at 8.30 on a Friday afternoon in Ireland.

We spent the rest of that night rounding up material and pictures. Then we posted some stuff and went reading the others.

Our trip was different. It was to be a classic affirmation...of everything right and true in the Film's original character...a gross physical salute to the fantastic possibilities of comidy using quotes from movies.

But only for those with true grit!
And we are chock full of that, man!!
    Attorney- Damn right!!!

My attorney understands this concept, despite her gender handicap.

    But do you?

Can't stand this movie to be honest.

Saw it in the Cinema and was distinctly underwhelmed, saw it again recently and was equally dissapointed..

Slots in somewhere below Requiem for a dream,Spun,American Psycho and Scarface on my list of average movies, its trendy to obsess over

Hunter S.Thompson didnt like it and neither did I :)

While its as good as an adaptation of the book as you are likely to get, it still falls far short of the joyous madness of the novel. Like Watchmen, it is a film that remains faithful to the book, but in doing so actually feels a little stifled. I think its good enough, Gilliam's direction is typically zany, and Depp's performance is hilarious, but the two times I've watched it I've lost interest well before the end, whereas the book kept me engrossed throughout.

There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered boardsie of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to thank, and too rare to ban.

I liked the film a lot.

It was always going to be impossible to do justice to the genius of HS Thompson with a film but I think Gilliam did a good job.

Some scenes are very well done......the lizard orgy in the bar and the bit at circus circus are very memorable and Depp is absolutely brilliant but your never going to be able to perfectly recreate HST's writing style on screen.

It also stands up to repeat viewings.

true true, but more often then not in the trasition from book to film theres something lost.

the only exception to this that ive realy noticed the movie being better is with Fight Club. the book it self had a feel of it just being a number of seperate stories that were added together as an after thought.
