This is all a bit Big Brotherish if you ask me. The British government claims it is doing this to keep tabs on the movemnt of suspected terrorists. And so here we go again. Somebody needs to explain to governments that terrorists that want to avoid detection will avoid detection. They won't use the normal method of transport if they run the risk of being caught. They'll use whatever means necessary to go undetected, so this nonsense is a waste of time and money.
Anyone departing the UK by land, sea or air will have their trip recorded and stored on a database for a decade. Passengers leaving every international sea port, station or airport will have to supply detailed personal information as well as their travel plans

Who's going to sift through this stuff. Can you imagine the rubbish people will put on their travel "applications"?

"We're going to Majorca for 2 weeks. While we're their we'll visit the water park in Palma, the Caves of Drac, and we'll be going to one of those pretend bull fights they do where they don't actually kill the bull. We'll be on the beach in Alicante from 10am to 4pm every day, so you'll recognise us when we come back because we'll be the red ones"

This is simply more control of the people by the British government and it's obvious catch all, see all, control all agenda.
Even swimmers attempting to cross the Channel and their support teams will be subject to the rules which will require the provision of travellers' personal information such as passport and credit card details, home and email addresses and exact travel plans.

    Laughable.
