One of the last things I did in RUI/P11 was to make a submission to the DOT regarding the DTA. The main thrust of the submission was the inclusion of Public Transport Users on the Board. During my time with RUI/P11 I was very passionate about the representation, rights and expectations of public transport users. For too long decisions have been taken on their behalf by people who wouldn't know the front of a bus to the back. I outlined the imperetive need for the inclusion of users/commuters on the DTA board, despite a Government history of non-inclusive practice in implementing transport projects. Citing the many "public consultation" events in connection with Luas and Metro etc, I stressed the need to embrace the knowledge and experience that is aquired by regular users of Dublin's existing transport infrastructure.

Today, it appears that my submission was given some credence. The link below has full details.

I hope people get organised and apply for a position. While my submission ruled out politicians, I note that county councillors are eligible. No doubt many more so called "experts" from lobby groups that don't actually have peoples interests at heart and are excuses to generate cash, will be lining up with their CVs. We must attempt to prevent this. The board needs real representation for the commuter by people who commute and are familiar with Dublins transport infrastructure and have no commercial or political agenda.

And indeed why not even you? Many online forums are littered with commuters with knowledge of how things can and should work. I'd just like to see at least one of the six positions filled by what I described above.

im not that interested, you are, you need somebody with a wide interest, customer advocates (like p11) not transport geeks.

I dunno. I've yet to see a state board where appointments are not based on who has supported/canvassed/otherwise helped the Minister responsible in the past. Maybe the DTA will be different, but I would raise any hopes...

To a degree I would agree. But how much of an expert to you have to be to know that you are spending hours a day stuck in traffic? And lets face it, many public representatives haven't much of a clue when it comes to this stuff either.. The point of the matter is that in some cases, there are people posting here that have bothered to look into some issues whilst others are merely expressing an opinion based on a reality as they see it. Wouldn't worry about it though - chances are that these independent reps will connected through Chambers Ireland, County Councils, Planning Offices etc.. I doubt there will be any real independent, joe public appointments. But if there are, what harm?

But you do have to be on to know the ins and outs of why there is congestion not simple because there are lots of cars on the road. There are alot more people more qualified to talk about this but off course you get the weekend warriors on here who think they know every thing.

If you sift through the internet warriors, you'll get to those with a bit of cop on.

I agree and I referenced that aspect in my OP. However, its important that people try. There is an opportunity here at the very least.

Yup. In my case, I felt the pain, then I questioned . But hey I may still be an eejit, but I do believe that things can be improved.

No doubt thinks can be improved. Many things are already.

The problem is poople here think they have the magic solution that no else has ever tried. That will fix things in minutes. Undo all the bad planning thats gone in the bast. People dont deal in the real world here

Entirely true, but more could be done

True but democracy is a brutal system until you look at the alternatives. I view much of the stuff on this forum as brainstorming. You get the good, the bad and the ugly. But you make your own mind up
