    Evening all,

I locked up my bike for the winter in a mates garage and am planning to start it up this weekend.
This is the first time I've locked up a bike for the winter.
I tried to start it over the christmas but the battery just started to die.

Any tips on firing my bike up again?

    Will recharge the battery obviously.

I know my dad used to hold a flame over the air intake so that the engine was trying combust with warm air

    Any advice appreciated.

How long has she been out of action? I'm not sure how long it takes for fuel to go off and suppose the stuff in the tank will be okay. The petrol in the carbs though will probably have lost is jizz what being open to athmosphere, in which case you could drain them so that the fuel pump/gravity fills with fresher stuff.

While the carbs are empty you could give the engine a few 5 second bursts on the starting motor so as to get oil back up to the top end - which will be drained dry from the long stand. If not bothering to do this then at least don't give it a big handful when she starts up ( you'll find she'll be "clattery" on the top end for a few seconds until the oil arrives to dampen the metal-to-metal sound)

Your battery won't have liked being flat over that period. Hopefully it'll come back to life but it may be damaged for good. Time will tell.

Give the tyres a pump up soon as you can obviously. And take it cautiously/gently until your sure all systems are functioning as they should be. If there's a bit of room in the tank, add some new fuel to freshen up any staleness in the old stuff.
