I'm guessing most of the doubters doubted he could reproduce last years unbelievable performance and they also doubted he could beat Kauto going on their respective form this season. The doubters were right on both counts ya big eejit!

I think what Harry Findlay said to RUK after the race was very true. Denman wasn't able to the run the race he ran last year ie to expose Kauto Star as a non stayer. For all that though he ran a great race in second to a wonderful winner. If they both turn up in rude health next year the result would still be in doubt IMO. Kauto had his excuses last year Denman had his this year.

I didn't get to see the race on Friday but sounds like it was a great performance from Kauto. I just wonder, will we ever see Denman and Kauto in top form on yielding/soft ground. Last year, they ran Kauto at Ascot before Chellers. Big mistake. And he had some problems the week before. So arguably he would was in better form in the run up to the Gold Cup this year. On the other hand, Denman had a poor run up to this years Gold Cup when he was on fire last year. Also, sounds like they didn't rie him as aggressively tis year.

IMHO, I don't think there is much between these two fine horses and it might come down to the ground. On good, Kauto wins. On sft Denman wins. It would be just really nice to see the two of them show up on the day in tip top shape on ground which doesn't inconvenience one over the other.

The thing about it the two of them meeting again der prob will always be an excuse if one fails to perform.
Both horses in der own rights are machines.
Kauto wit his atheliticism and turn of foot and denman wit his bull staying power.
IMO i reckon finlay/barber are raging after the brilliant run of denman because he ran so well that they didnt try and do what they done last year and take kauto outta his comfort zone.
The one good thing is that both will be back next year and hopefully as well as ever and maybe we will get another amazing gold cup performance by either one of these stars.
Anyway role on next season...Get on Denman for the national i say...;)

There are 2 horses that must be the most unluckiest ever.

Neptune Collognes and Exotic Dancer, they again tried to race Denman and Kauto and again lost.

I honestly think apart from Best Mate no other horse would get near NC AND ED and yet they still only finish 3rd and 4th.

Exotic Dancer and Neptune are 2 horses to back next season in every race they run and don't come up against one of the big 2.
