Hairdresser who really will cut off an inch

    Hi people.

I've been trying to grow my hair longer for years. I've gone to countless hairdressers, all of them told me the way to grow my hair longer is by getting it cut more regularly, but just get tiny amounts off. But every hairdresser I have ever been to has taken more off my hair than agreed. I always leave the hairdressers so angry that I paid for a service that was different to what we agreed upon - I show them the amount with my hair, I describe it in centimetres and inches, they agree . . . and still cut off more.

So I didn't get my hair cut for over a year. It is now long - but crappy at the ends and needs a bit of shape. I reckon I need two inches off my hair. I don't care if they see a split-end five inches up, I don't want more than two inches taken off.

I have spoken to every girlfriend and family member about this issue, everyone seems to have the same issue with hairdressers and no one can find a hairdresser who doesn't cut off four inches when they promised only to chop off one inch.

But to me, this makes no sense. Surely there is a hairdresser in or near Dublin (or even Ireland) that can carry out what is agreed? Does anyone know of a hairdresser that really does cut off one inch when you agree that with her/him?

I have been to lots of good hairdressers in Ireland, who left me with a really nice shape - but this time I just want to find one who won't be happy-chopping off my hair.

    Please help me!!!! :P

I go to Brown Sugar and they are really good there. I say how much and that's all they cut off. Anything more than an inch and I would FREAK out!

haha i have to laugh at that. I hear that so many time's. I'm a hairdresser and still i cant explain why we get so scissor happy. But i have a few theorys, 1) where just so scissor happy we cant stop ourselves. 2) dont actually know what an inch is 3) dont care what an inch is your hair needs more cut off, so were just going to do it. 4) made a total hash of it and the only way to get your hair even is to take more off.

But to be serious when you feel that they have taken way more than an inch off is this once they have finished in the salon or maybe the next day. My hair has a bit of a wave in it and after having it blowdried it looks that bit longer, few days later the kink is back and it looks shorter.

They must of taken some amount off if it was at the salon cause when you dry the hair you take it from alpha to beta keratin ( arn't i getting techincal lol ) when blowdrying your bascially stretching the hair, and this makes it's that little bit longer.

Next time i would say you just wants your ends off and show them with your fingers exacetly how much you want off, dont be afriad to tell them that you have been to places before and they always cut off too much, there are going to want to keep you as a client, and if they know you were unhappy last time with the result they should just cut off what you asked. But since you haven't had your hair cut in a year they probably will say that you need more off. Just them you know that but you dont want to.

It would be a good idea for you to get a "little" bit trimmed off every 4-6 weeks if your hair has a lot of split ends, when you dont trim your hair you get split ends, eventually they will break and it will appear that your hair isn't growing and if it does then like you said your ends will be in bad condition. I know how you feel about keeping long hair at one stage mine was in bits i could of done with chopping the whole lot off but i never would, regular trims and conditioning treatments with improve your hair a lot and then your have gorgeous long healthy hair.

If you dont find a salon that will do as you ask, keep me in mind. I'm a mobile hairdresser and i'm moving back to dublin in 2 weeks. ( and i'm not scissor happy lol )

I've been getting my hair cut by the same hairdresser for years, (she's moved salons 4 times since I started going to her so so have I) she is the only person I let cut my hair because she only cuts off what I ask her to cut off - she's based in a salon in Leopardstown (dunno if that's a good area for you distance wise) but if you want contact details pm me ;)

anyone working in the public sector, needs to tune into the clients needs.
as in your case,it is better to take less, and be asked if you want a small bit more off,you can't put it back, cos at the end of the day you try to please all,but it's not possible you will always have someone you can't satisfy.tell the hairstylist, before they start ,you want no more than a inch of your length taken off,if they take more warn the person ,you wont pay, before they touch it.

He he I have the same complaint. Recently found a salon and hairdresser who will actually just cut off the amount I ask. They are on Amien Street. Called
D1 Salon and the prices reflect the recessionary times we are currently experiencing. Defo worth a visit... price list on www.d1salon.net.
