    Hi all,
Have just installed the attic stairs (styra style) - is there a way of insulating this trapdoor if the ladder is in the way, i.e. in the folded-up position. Any tricks?

    Cheers

Dont believe so . You could draft seal at the edges however- that would be worthwhile- and simple

just get some fiberglass in sulation and run it over the trap door leave it good and long fold up the stairs and the insulation wil run over it

which means that every time the stairs is used the atmosphere will be filled with fine pieces of FG.:(

My current design for customized attic access panels is to get a frame made in UPVC window frame: The rubber seal is already there so getting an airtight seal with an insulated panel is easy.

For the two conventional attic doors in my house I just use a long piece of loose fibreglass as mentioned above. It's awkward but I rarely go up so I like the cheap option. For a folding attic stairs I'd probably get a roll of foil encapsulated insulation or possibly a more 'friendly' insulating material such as sheep's wool. Alternatively, I think there are specific insulation products out there designed to go above attic stairs.

you could buy some rigid insulation board from local builders providers and leave it sit on the hatch frame whem you are coming down, same idea as the fibregless but it wont fall down on you when you open the door to go up and you then just push it out of way when ladder is in use, plus it b alot cleaner
