    Hi All

Got a new car during the week, (second hand car but new to me), car is not taxed as I am waiting for the log book to come back from Shannon.

Just have a nice long weekend coming up, just wondering is it safe to drive up the north with no tax?

I've read the previous threads on car tax and that tehnically you should not be on hte road with no tax - but I have the from from the garage saying I just bought it during the week so I presume any Guard would just let it go if I was stopped but what about over the border? Would they be so leniant???

    Thanks

Theoretically it shouldn't bother them at all, it isn't THEIR tax that you haven't paid.

In practice ...well, that's for you to find out :D

I would pressume so, If you were stopped and you explained to a PSNI officer that you had just bought the car, (I dont think he would be too knowledgable of the republics tax log book replacement system) he wouldnt have an issue with it as long as you have a valid license and insurance.

Plus the the car is reistered in the republic, the tax on it is of no consequence to anyone up north except the british customs. As your not importing it, im sure you'd be grand

    ~not legal advise BTW!
