I'm a bit new to music production and I'd like to now how you record guitar into your DAW. I understand you would need some kind of an interface. Is there such thing as a USB interface for recording guitar? Any help would be appreciated.

Read the stickies, they're the best place to start.
If you have specific questions after reading those you'll get much better answers.

Do I need a new soundcard to record guitar or will my integrated one do?

A dedicated soundcard such as the Mbox or the MOTU MK3 will do the job for a begineer recording guitar. These devices plug into your computer via Firewire or USB you then plug your guitar into either device and you are ready to record. You will get Pro tools M-Powered with the Mbox and you are away. You can plug your guitar straight into either device or you can plug a microphone into either device. You will have to learn about whatever DAW you choose. Simple enough though.

Clearly you didn't read the sticky: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055136974
It's a waste of people's time answering questions that are already answered comprehensively and specifically for people starting out, like yourself.
Do yourself a favour and read it, you'll learn more doing that than you will just getting a product name on this thread for you to go out and buy.

So these are external soundcards you're talking about right? That sounds grand. Can you recommend a good, cheap interface other than something like the mbox? I don't need pro tools as I have a different DAW already.

if you have a firewire port

any TC electronic konnekt interface - best bang for buck in terms of quality or an RME .

    or a mackie onyx satellite

otherwise any usb interface - but firewire is best for the pro-sumer ranges

if you are going fully pro then adat connections with apogee or Lynx Aurora ( adat / firewire )

At this stage usb will be fine too, its only data rate your dealing with so if your not trying to record 12 kit mics at once then usb is an option too....

M-Audio cards, fasttracks etc.. will be fine and well within everyones budget, or Edirol these are ideal starters and well able for 24 bit recording....

I would only say no to USB if you were thinking of running gigasampler as they dont do usb drivers and wont be....

www.dv247.com or www.thomann.de and search all makes :)

Good luck in your search ! :)
