Hi Guys, first time posted in the modified motors section!

I have a Mazda 3 MPS, with the focus RS coming out I think I am going to have to up the BHP of my car! Its currently 260bhp (247 dyno tested )

Now, im goin to get it chipped this summer, the only place that will do this is turbopacs in Durham England. (600 sterling) this will bring her up to 298 (claimed). Im also looking at importing parts from Cobb tuning in the US, specificallly, Air intake, intercooler, downpipe and turbo inlet.

    http://www.cobbtuning.com/categories/?id=3109

Does anyone know about this company or has anyone imported parts and had them fitted in Ireland? Whats the story (pitfallls/tips etc?)

Should I get this done before the remap?

Any help and comments or reccomendation are very welcome! thanks guys!

You'd probably be better off asking in an owners club to be honest, you'll get the best information and links as to where to get stuff

any mods you have planned should be acrried out before the remap takes place.
that way the mapper, can adjust the air/fuel mixture, ignition timing etc etc to suit your cars exact parameters.

are you sure the only place that can map the car is in england?

also, are you sure the parts from the USA will defo fit your euro RHD version? are the engine components in the same position etc etc
especially if your going to fit a FMIC!

ps - nice choice of car, my mate has one and my god its quick!

I have only ever seen one other 3MPS on the roads ever and it was up north and it was the car I test drove about 4 months before that! wheres your mate driving about?

Good call about the RHD aspect, I never even thought of that! I'll be comparing their diagrams with whats under my bonnet this afternoon, and maybe give them a call about it!

The only garage which has the software for the MPS ECU is turbopacs in Durham, I could get it done in NI by angel tuning, however they are afffiliated with turbopacs and will take the chip out, send it away to them, get it back and reinstall it, charging me an extra 350 sterling for the privledge!

Are K n N air intakes standerd fit? ie. will they fit my car?

As KC eire said always MAP last,a FMIC,Turbo back exhaust and silicone down pipe and remap on top should get you easily over 310bhp.

I would check out some of the mazda 3 owners clubs though and talk to people that have had it done to find out the real facts like is the clutch able for it or should you upgrade, how do the brakes fair out etc...

Also i wouldn't bother with any type of cold air induction just replace the existing panel filter with a K&N or ITG panel filter.
This is general information i would give to anyone considering upping power and not Mazda specific as i haven't got a clue about Jpn cars :D

    Hi,

I'd be wary of reflashes to the ECU as they may be over written next time you get your car serviced at the Mazda Dealership.
I asked my dealer about this and he says the directive from Mazda is to log all servicing into the ECU for electronic record and if there are any updates due these get downloaded too.
The Cobb Accessport is great but it states on their website that it's for North American MazdaSpeed's only!
I too have been interested but unsure which route to go down, cp-e.com have a Standback (piggyback PnP) which you can tune and are working on a replacement Hybrid Turbo
Also consider ETS TMIC instead of the better FMIC for a less invasive upgrade for moderate power hike!
£800 for a power hike which could be wiped at your next service, too risky!!

Good point about the remap getting over written.
I reckon you should join up to a members club site, there can be so much info on them

I know they helped me out with remapping my ST.
I got a really handy unit that plugs in and downloads the standard map.
You can they return the car to stock any time it goes in for a service and then re-load the map as desired :D

    Hi Mik,

Yea I was going to get a Golf gti and get a revo kit or morego setup like they have for the ST but in the end I went with the mazda, unfortunately there aren't as many upgrade options (cheap mods)

Of course now I'm telling myself to hold off on spending silly money on this car as I had earlier planned and just wait for a few affordable examples of the UK specced GTR R35 (Pipe dreams, I know!)

I'm looking for a simple plug and play piggyback job for the MPS which like you I can remove for trips to the dealer even though my dealer is sound when it comes to mods, as it was he that asked me if I had any plans to mod it!

I wonder if you can tell me, if I replced the exhaust (catback or turbo back but with a Cat) would the car be capable of passing the NCT (emissions)?

    Thanks, CS

the great thing about the GTi is with a revo remap on a standard car yeilds 250bhp easily and without any issues, fit an exhaust and filter and uprated fuel pump and then get a stage 2 revo and your at the 300bhp!!

but the Mazda is hard to find easy mods for! i think theres an MPS forum, have you checked there?
