Can anyone give me advice on this situation please?
I was driving on the motorway in a 120kph zone. I was driving in the left lane which i always do but decided to go into the right lane because an L Plate drive was in the left lane doing about 60kph. It was very busy with a lot of cars on the motorway therefore when i was trying to pull back into the left lane (after passing the Learner driver) a car was speeding up behind me in the left lane so i waited for him to pass and turned into the left lane behind him.
About 50meters later the speeding car and myself were pulled off the road by a garda. I checked my speed and it was about 112kph. I thought i pulled in by accident and was about to drive off but decided to wait for the garda to tell me so.
I saw the garda telling the guy in the speeding car to turn back onto the road. I thought the garda was going to tell me off about driving from the right lane from the left but this is not wrong to do so imagine my surprise when he said i was speeding at 152kph!!
I told him this was not the case, i checked my speed. I was well under the limit. I was driving the same speed as everyone else in the right lane. It was obvious the car i pulled in behind in the left lane was speeding.
I asked to see proof. He refused. He said he didn't have to.He gave me a speeding ticket. I was speaking to the inspector in this gardas station 2 weeks later and the inspector said by rights the garda should have shown me the speed on the gun if i was convinced he was wrong but in todays law he didn't have to!!
I asked the garda did he think he got the wrong car and gave me the speed of the other car in front of me. His reply was to shrug his shoulders and walk away from my car.
I was speaking to a solicitor and he said that in todays law, we cannot ask for proof and it is the garda's word.
I have read loads of stories on the radar gun not being accurate and picking up the speed of another car because it is brighter in colour (the other car was white. how much brighter can it be) when pointing the radar gun at your car. I also cannot understand how he thought he was pointing the gun at my car when i was behind another car.
I am so annoyed about this and know for a fact that i was not doing 152kph. I never speed and have now been told that i won't be listened to in court and that i could be disqualified from driving for 6 months and /or get a big fine.
I am on my second clean full drivers licence, passed my driving test first time around and have never been stopped before.
I am wondering if anyone has heard any other stories like this and if they know how accurate speed guns can be?

    1. Gardai dont give speeding tickets on the side of the road anymore.

    2. The gun is accurate and will pick up the speed of the car its tracking. Car could be bright pink and it wouldn't matter.

    3. He could have easily tracked you if you were behind another car. Only way this wouldn't happen is if you were up the other cars ass, tailgating.

Have to say, I don't believe this story.
If its true, go to court and fight it but be prepared for the consequences.
