It'll be repeated on BBC two I bet.

By the way, what happened to Screenwipe? There was about four new episodes before Christmas and then a review of the year and nothing since

Ive a feeling it ran its course

If they run for too long eventually shows like that become the shows they are slagging off

No it wasn't the best. A bit like a poor-man's daily show.

A lot of it was as depressing as the news tbh. Could pick up though, will keep watching.

    Hope they do more screenwipe

Didnt see it, bit fearfull tbh as generally it does take a smart comedian or someone very politically savvy to take the p**s out of the news

Charlie is deadly but his tv stick is a bit pointy gurnfest
not sure that will work with the news
    hope im wrong!!!

You lot are mental, I thought it was excellent.

I burst out laughing at the 'epic fail' t-shirt. :D

    It had it's moments.

The part with the psychologist talking about the german student who did a Columbine was very, very interesting. It showed perfectly the aim of the media (i.e to cause controversy and make profit).

Its uploaded on youtube here : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FrhEYCaRNcQ

    Enjoy!

    Your quite wrong!

Not laugh out loud funny, not meant to be

    Very interesting though

Dont watch the news coverage of tragedy etc anymore
pretty much for the reasons in the show
    so il be following it

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

The last segment about the German school massacre and the NI peace marches was spot on. Not that news tv gives a damn.

I thought it was excellent, funny and moving.
The "ecomonic cycle" bit was hilarous.
Problem is I dont have BBC4.Where else will I be able to view it dya think?
BBC4 is excellent and its available free on freesat

just watching it now, did anyone notice Brendan Courtney on that segment about Quantitative Easing? bizarre

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 27 Jimmy Bennett

It was excellent. But given that it's about the news, I'd say it'll be considerably more depressing than screenwipe. The fella doing the 'economic cycle' was hilarious, desperately trying to seek out misery and only finding cautious optimists.

    <SNIP>

    Regularly updated. It's a godsend.

MOD EDIT: Jimmy Bennett, please read the Television Charter. One point in it is:
    * Don't ask where you can download/stream TV shows or give any links to them. Infact try to stay away from discussion of downloading altogether.
Since you're new, this is just a warning.

Few bits and pieces missing from that guy's youtube account, just so you know in advance.

    Just watched the second one
News coverage of Diana and Jade Goody etc
    Brilliant!!!

The bit covering politicans was spot on!

Career politicans are in it for the career not the job!

Young lad on politics forum recently asking what party he should join
I said if that was his way of looking at it he was getting into politics for the wrong reason

A politics Mod told me i was wrong and starting in one party to see how parties work before switching was normal:mad::mad::mad:

come the revolution brothers and sisters; come the revolution;):D

For those looking to see the newest episodes Charlie Brooker is fully behind people uploading them to youtube, found a guy has uploaded every Screen/Newswipe ever including the pilot for Newswipe. Its all on his channel:

    Mod edit: Link Removed

New episodes are uploaded the next day usually

He has made a point of thanking the guy (whose link is always being removed)
publically, both on screen and in blogs for putting the stuff up

As said here: http://twitter.com/charltonbrooker/status/1512119104 and he has said this:

''@xthemusic I'm all for your uploading. On a practical note, it's helped us get contributors: we send them a link to previous eps on Youtube. ''

To be fair though, what Charlie Brooker feels about uploading his show means absolutely nothing as the shows rights are owned by the BBC.

But the fact the BBC haven't taken down any of the videos over the past 3 years is a sign

This weeks episode about the G20 events in London was very good. LOL at the Sky boat.

Indeed it was. Best line of the night was on the MMR panic and the Blairs not revealing whether Leo had been given the MMR injection
this was because of privacy concerns, and we must respect their right to privacy, an argument which is slightly undermined by the fact that Cherie Blair has now since written in her autobiography about the actual f*$£ which conceived the child.

Just watched the latest episode. Really top stuff. Perhaps the best Newswipe yet.

More people should check this show out. It's not only funny and interesting but it's educational too. I feel bad that hardly anyone appreciates the greatness of this guy and yet millions are tuning in to watch John f*cking Barrowman.

Like Pavlov's pooch I was slavering over the prospects of a new Newswipe. Yet lo and behold this week's Ep. it's a best of.... (after 4 episodes). Charlie does his usual couldn't give a toss response to such sloppiness. If this wasn't the finest show on telly I might have been a little ticked off.

That Adam Curtis segment from a few weeks ago was ridiculously good ....living in the mind of a depressed hippie indeed.

As he noted "the greatest hits and new bits" package got forced forwards due to reasons clear to see.

Hopefully he'll recover in time to do a proper show this week... although his condition does sound painful:

Thank God he is backing doing Screen Burn. Those stand ins were a bit pants.

Why oh why do the BBC always put Charlie Brooker stuff on BBC4!If they put it on BBC2 it would get a much wider audience?
His screen burn is much much funnier than Harry Hills tv burp and that has one of the highest audience ratings.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

Screenwipe was repeated on BBC2 a few months later as a rule but Newswipe after the fact is a bit pointless though Brooker Truths hold firm throughout the ages I guess.

It was commisioned as a digital show
they are trying to "launch" the digital channels so some stuff that used to live on BBC2 now lives on BBC4
Britain is now a digital tv country

their is also the fact that he spends 3/4 the time slagging off their flagship shows and pointing out how badly they treat their customers but im sure that has nothing to do with it:rolleyes:

I am fricking delighted to see this show back. Funny, insightful and irreverent. Plus you sort of feel smarter after watching it; in a kind of "see!!! that's what I'm talking about, the world has gone mad" type way

Charlie "Hehehe, he's probably in hospital now" :o

I loved him taking the piss out of the irate Faux News reporter on the Underpants Terrorist.

    "Alright Shouty-Hat..."

Some great points were made though, that guy pointing out how more people die from Diabetes than from terrorist attacks, and the discussion of all the super sexy action sequences to make news more exciting and all that was very good.

    Bring on next week!!:D

"Hi,I'm Doug Stanhope. And that's why I drink." :D Great to see him back again, anyone know if he's going to be making regular appearances?
I thought it was really entertaining, especially since I didn't really enjoy Gameswipe or the Christmas Special much, though I do think he's recycling themes a bit. Still pretty much the only thing I look foreward to watching on TV though,so long may it run!
