Evening everyone. I am a 41 year old black belt in tkd ( with a lack of flexibility that didn't always make life easy), anyway, due to a minor knee problem I have had to retire. I am now thinking about taking up another MA and I was hoping for some suggestions. There is a Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu school near me, but I am a bit wary that ninja thing may attract the wrong type, although is does sound interesting. I want to avoid too much kicking if possible and I am more interested in the philosophy based arts. I would appreciate any advice. Thanks

Tai Chi ? How bad is the knee injury?
I'm not sure how stressfull Akido is on the knees, but it might be another option

Aikido can be pretty tough on the knees, why don't you post where you live ericthedog and you might get some suggestions of whats near you.

We have a few people doing BJJ and Aikido who have had knee surgery, it doesn't have to stop you training.

ericthedog where do you live? The Bujinkan is not just Ninjutsu by the way. There are 9 schoools of martial study contained within it, and Ninjutsu only takes up a small part of the study, and that is normally at a more advanced level. At beginners level most of the study is taken up with Jujutsu, Taijutsu(body movement) and Daken-Taijutsu (Striking) Why don't you drop down and watch a class and see for yourself what it's about. I run the Bujinkan clubs in Lucan and Leixlip so if it's close to you, drop down and watch a class and have a chat. Full listings of the Bujinkan clubs are available on www.bujinkan.ie or PM me if you have a question you would like answered.

many thanks for your replies. My knee is ok, it just aches badly after any sustained kicking, I felt it was a good time to stop before any permanent damage occurred. I have decided to check out the Bujinkin school near me and there is also an Aikido school I will take a look at. I will let you know how it goes. By the way, I am in Cornwall UK.

    Hi
I think that there is a JKD Group in Cornwall under Dave Carnell who is a top man.
