thinking of growing my hair longer

I'm a male who usually gets my head shaved at the sides and back and cut short at the top, but was thinking of growing it a bit longer. But when I go to the barber, what way do I get it cut in order to grow it longer? Do I just ask the barber to trim it with scissors? or do I ask them to just use the thinning scissors? any…

you don't get it cut until its too long, messy or heavy.

but my hair gets too long and uneven and so I need to get it cut every so often, but do I say to the barber to just trim it? or do I tell him to use the thinning scissors and nothing else?

Don't go to a barber! Just go to a salon, and tell them you're growing your hair, and they'll trim/thin it where it needs to be.

Thanks for that, not going for anything crazy just want a bit more length to my hair, as at the minute its just shaved at the sides and very short on top. Something like this hairstyle is what I would want:

Just take that picture to your local salon and they will be able to work with you to get that look over time.
