Handed out CV's, how long before going on the dole?

I intend on handing out CVs today and tomorrow and sending them to prospective employers through the interweb.

Any reasonable time I should wait before going into social welfare to sign onto Jobseekers allowance?

Is a few days too short?

I was in college last year, was in a car crash at the end of october 08, unable to walk for 3 months because of a broken ankle, then doing some informal work renovating a property my mother had just bought, this informal work ended a few days ago. Now trying to find an official job.

I would have qualified for jobseekers while renovating but I didnt need it as I was getting paid.

    So as soon as possible?

you should sign on as soon as possible - if for no other reason than the fact that while you weren't working officially (I presume this means you were off the books) you were not paying PRSI contributions.

    yep, as soon as possible.

You qualify by being "available for and genuinely seeking employment"

remember to keep those replies you get from your job applications, as you'll need to show them to the SW when you go in next.
