    Toyota Corolla 1999, 1332cc, 3-Door. Terra model (I think).

I am wondering if anyone out there can help me, I want to get more BHP out of my car. No idea where to start but i was told before i could put in a high-lift cam, ??. anyone got any suggestions? also open to the idea of taking engine out and replacing with an AE86 engine. Would it fit? If anyone has ever tried anything like this before or knows anything about it would like to hear from ya.

    Cheers

only option imo is to replace the engine with a more powerfull engine and then carry out the necessary upgrades to the existing car including, performance brakes, better suspension etc etc

actually, dont do it, sell it and buy a performance car, thats probably a better option tbh

Simple things could give it a bit more welly really. Light weight alloys, decat, performance exhaust, airfiltr, uprated sparkplugs and leads, sports clutch.

Alot of them will give it a little more without going into too much money and playing with the engine. Dont bother putting money into imo.

if you want to spend/waste money trying to get power out of the existing engine, go with an air filter, decat and nice backbox. if i were you tho, and had money to spare, i'd look into putting the 4age 20v engine and gearbox from a toyota levin into your corolla. supposed to be the easiest swap and you automatically have a 170bhp 1.6 corolla that sounds fantastic.

    Cost V Benefit.

Your cheapest option will always be buy something with a bigger or more tunable engine.

Also an AE86 engine is not a transversely mounted engine. Try a levin/20v corolla engine.

Toyota people will be able to tell you what engines will fit on the factory mounts.

Or you could just buy a levin nor 20v corolla and save yourself a load of ball ache unless you love your terra and that's what you really want.

I agree with this. Although if you are thinking about an engine transplant. The 4EFTE from a Toyota Starlet GT Turbo or Glanza should fit without too much trouble. You would need to upgrade your brakes, suspension and clutch/gearbox aswell though at the very least!

Glanza swap is the best way to get power. absolutely not worth it though, it's the cheapest Corolla model, with the money you'd spend on a transplant, upgrading suspension and brakes to cope with the extra power, fitting a decent interior, and insuring it - you'd get a car that was meant to go fast in the first place.
