    Hi all

I am hoping to do my first triathlon this year and am currently stepping up my training. I've been thinking of buying a Garmin 405 for some time but I recently came across a Polar brand also.

Can anyone advise which of these is better? Which would you recommend?
Also, where is the best place (i.e. most reasonable) to buy - UK/US?

    Thanks
    Ronan

There's already a wealth of info on this forum, if you search for Forerunner. However, to help you skip some of this, the Forerunners (405 anyway) are only rated IPX7 (equivalent to 30 mins under water up to depth of 1 metre). So you might be better off looking elsewhere if you're looking for something to cover the three disciplines.

There are a number of watches targeted specifically at triathletes, but best hit the search button to find more info.

As Krusty said there are tonnes of threads on watches on here. I bought my 405 the other day online as they are FINALLY compatible with Mac OS...did a search through here before confirming my purchase and it just made me want it more. :D

I think Timex do 'Ironman' watches.

I'm very happy with my 305 so unless it goes awol or breaks will I be considering the upgrade to 405. I've had polar watches before but they didn't have the gps functionality that I like with the 305. If theres a new polar watch that has that good stuff I'm not familiar with it so can't comment. I can heartily recommend the 305 though. If you don't need a heart rate monitor then the 205 will do the job for you too.

    Hi O.P.

Have a Polar S 725X the last 6 months. It comes with a heart rate monitor and Footpod ( which can measure your speed, distance ect) an additional Pod can be purchased for your bike. excellent watch in my opinion check out http://www.polar.fi/en/products/running_multisport/S725X/

you also get a software program for your laptop and can transfer info from your runs/cycles onto the laptop if you so wish.

I bought on US Ebay when fx rates were more favourable than now but would be worth checking out www.ebay.co.uk due to nice sterling rates e

Only thing not on S725X is GPS but there are other polar models that have this should you need it

    happy hunting;)

Ebay. Paid 220 I think it was for the whole package(watch + HRM + ANT)...green one was cheaper than the black one.
Big difference in price from Irish stores online who were charging 345 euro
