What exactly does that mean, when given as a reason to close a thread?

People are engaging in a discussion, on a topic which they feel they have strong opinions on. And all of a sudden a mod comes along and gives this piss poor reason to close the thread.

So what if it goes on and on? The reason a thread goes on is because there are plenty of people who want to contribute to it.

What benefit is there to closing it? If people don't want to read it they won't, and the people who still want to contribute will.

I think there should be no reason at all to close any thread unless it contains illegal content.

"This thread has gone off topic" - in a normal conversation in real life do you stringently stick to one topic and punish those of may drift a little?

As for posting threads in the appropriate place, why would I want to do that? Not all posters look at all the subforums of boards.ie. In the specific subforums they tend to take everything seriously. I just want to post everything in a "general" section thank you very much.

Anyway, in short. A fair amount of Boards Mods crap
