    Hi All,

Has anyone on here ever applied/been offered a job in Brno in the Czech Republic?

Would appreciate any thoughts, considering heading over as there is absolutely nothing in Mayo/West....

    Thanks and regards
    Johnny

A friend of mine visiting it was not impressed by how it looked. It is the second largest city in CZ iirc but it is a small country in the first place so don't say a whole lot.

I'd spend a weekend there before going for it. In general though will your salary be a lot less then in Ireland but the cost is also a lot less. I'd look at bottom line savings in the end.

I haven't, but I lived with a couple from Brno. They really liked it there, but came here because opportunities weren't plentiful 3 years ago.

Although I hear IBM need a few heads out there... just be aware that the czech koruna is sh@gg€d at the moment, so your money will be tight especially if you take a trip to a euro zone.

RedHat also have an office out there.

You have absolutely nothing to lose by checking it out... fly to vienna, bratislava or prague... and they will have nicer summers than in mayo. Looks like a pretty enough city but I'm sure it has its sh1t spots

by the way, if you want to speak to those folks from Brno, I can put you in touch with them. They live in Dublin 15 should you happen to be in this part of the country...

    Good luck

Cheers for your help, much appreciated - know that the wages are poor compared to here but the cost of living is miles cheaper, and like you say the weather has to be better than Mayo!!!!

Will probably try and head over for a weekend and decide then whether to head over, have no ties over here so nothing to lose!

Don't know about Brno but I have a friend who has moved to Prague and loves it. Good ex-pat scene, plenty of English speakers (he doesn't speak Czech) Though be prepared, Czech people can seem a bit brash at first (well, people from Prague at least). They're actually really nice but don't seem to do 'politeness' the way Irish do.

My mate still gets his salary paid in euros into his Irish bank account, if you're going to an international company, they might be willing to do that (maybe safer than czech currency...)

Good luck with the job, mate.

Cheers - Have been checking out Brno for most of day via the web and it seems to be a lot quieter than Prague(including the ex-pat scene as well), think that the salary will be paid in Czech though, but needless to say that is one of a couple of things that I need to clear up with the employer first......

Sure tis worth a go anyways...
