should have looked at website before posting all my questions! they look really nice, i quite like the idea of them and seem safe and cheap, have never seen them at an irish wedding ,just wondering if anyone has and how did it go?

I was thinking about these for an Italian wedding, but I think you need to check with the venue before using them. Mixing drunk guests and fire generally isn't a good idea! :(

I heard of one girl who had to call 2 firebrigades since the lanterns set fire to trees or fields around the venue apparently! :O

They are so beautiful though, I'm hoping to have them .... minus the firebrigade hopefully.

I'm hoping to have them too, also at a venue in Italy. I'm not sure if they'll allow it though considering the wedding will be in June and the venue is in a rural area. I'm half afraid of setting crops on fire! I'd probably be better off waiting til i come home and do it then - fat chance of anything catching fire here with this crap weather

just had a look at nightskylanterns .co.uk. they are really beautiful floating off into the night. great idea.never heard of them before. has any one used them at an irish wedding? we re thinking of gettimg married in the slieve russell, cavan. would love to use them if possible, within causing any fire damage!

I'd say they might struggle against the force 10 gale and 25mm of rainfall.
as for setting fire to the local crops in cavan think of last July & August !!!! they are lovely but extremely weather dependent i would say.

They are beautiful! A lot of people had them at New Year's celebrations, and it looks magical.

I know that some countries have restrictions on them for fire safety, and if there's an airport nearby you have to clear that with authorities (as far as I know, they are thinking of banning them in Germany - so check with authorities in Italy, to be on the safe side)

Also, think about thatched houses in the vicinity.

They are nice, but the risks are there, too (probably not on an Irish summer's day, though ;-))
