I guess this mean Paul Hyland isn't fighting for the European in May or would Napa be ready to defend it again by then? I heard Paul struggled to beat that Russian he fought in England a couple of weeks back so maybe Maloney knocked the idea on the head after seeing that.

Going from what Maloney's been saying since Jamie Moore won the European title it looks like he's going to have Moore defend his title in Dublin with Sutherland on the undercard in May.

For a guy so small he is doing so well. I know bantams are small; but just over 5 feet:)

Anyway, why would Maloney turn down an 'easy' defence against Hyland.
Maloney is Napa's promoter isn't he?

A promoter maybe turns down an easy defence?
That doesn't sound like PRO boxing today:D

That would leave 8 or so weeks for Napa to prepare for a Hyland fight, that doesn't sound right at all. I did hear also that Paul struggled with Nikita Lukin and he really had to pull it out in the last round to get the win.
Maybe the pressure of the fight before the big one (ie Napa) got to him a little.
I don't know how much truth there is in this but there were rumours of Hyland fighting EBU champ Rendall Munroe in the near future.

there is a press conference in dublin next thursday with all the hylands, stating all their upcoming fight for 2009 and ian napa is gonna be a big part of that, napa and hyland is a done deal, all depending if napa holds the title next week. then frank maloney said if napa wins he will state after the fight that the next fight is to be against hyland in dublin and they are looking at the 2nd of may according to FTM promotions as they are in talks with sky to show it as part of the hatton fight,

Any news on whether Patrick will take on Sergey Gulyakevich for the super-featherweight EBU on the same night?

That's the stuff Maloney was spouting at a presser for Sutherland a few weeks back, getting the 2 Hyland boys in EBU fights and Daz with another Eastern block of cheese on the same night.

its not patrick, for some reason patrick is not ranked by the EBU, however it was eddie the will be fighting for the EBU super feather weight title on the same night.
