Driving Test Tallaght - 17 weeks waiting :(

Just saw the latest time to wait for a test in tallaght. 17 weeks. Is the fonthill SGS test center closed now (are all SGS closed?). I honestly dont think I can wait 17 weeks. My insurance is monthly and I could really do with passing my test to help reduce my debts. Would there be any problems with my applying for somewhere like Cavan that has a 6 week waiting time? Has anyone else done something like this?

Unless they have changed things recently then you certainly can choose any test centre in Ireland to do your test.

"As far as possible, your test will be arranged for the centre you nominate. You should note, however, that tests for Categories C, EC, EC1, D, ED and ED1 are conducted only at a limited number of centres in cities and large towns. Consequently, if you apply for one of those tests at a centre where it is not conducted, you will be given an appointment for the centre nearest to you where it is conducted. "

OP, just so you know, I paid my insurance monthly too and when I passed my test it was only reduced by about a €5 over all per month. Passing your test won't cause a huge reduction in your Insurance premium, a couple of hundred at most.

I plan on cancelling my current policy once I pass my test. I think the guy said my insurance would drop by 600 and I'd go from tpft to fully comp. Also I'd really prefer fully comp insurance because the car is pretty expensive (for me anyway) and it would put my mind at rest knowing its fully insured.

I noticed Raheny is only 7 weeks. Might apply there instead

Unless you insurance is really expensive I wouldn't expect that big a drop.

I think mine dropped by about 20% on passing , and that was with 10 months left to run on the policy.

I would consider it expensive. I was getting quotes of 3500-4000 fully comp on a 1.4 focus. I can get fully comp for about 2100-2300 if I have my full licence. There's also the fact that 17 weeks is a long time and I'm expected to have a fully licenced driver with me at all times. I'm ready for my test, have been driving for 7+ months now I think and its just very disheartening not to be able to do the test soon and get into the car on my own without worrying about being stopped for not having a second driver with me

With all SGS test centres due to close on 10th April expect 17 weeks to be the norm throughout the country. Everyone should email Noel Dempsey or their local TD to complain.

I got a €20 rebate with 6 months left on my policy which cost me €1150 or so TPFT. I hope next year is cheaper, which I imagine it will be.
