I know, it's like every second person is wearing one. Even the knackers have them.

Yeah it's bizarre. I haven't seen the D4 crowd and the scobies dressing the same since TK Maxx arrived.

It could also be that its cold out and the jackets are warm?

LOL :D Well, i have a NF bodywarmer BUT in my defense - i'm always freezing my a$$ off (broken thyroid) and its got down inside so really warm and got it on sale and with some vouchers so it ended up costing me €5 in arnotts! The one I have has a pocket in the inside that the whole body warmer folds itself into so handy for traveling too.

EDIT - I love that NF jacket and couldn't care less if half of Dublin are wearing them and as mentioned it was a fiver! TNF FTW

why are you defending your choice of jacket? its cold out, it keeps you warm, job done!

I don't know anything about the North Face but I always assumed it was a resonably specialist brand found in outdoor shops. That's why I'm surprised that it is currently so prevalent.

I have also noticed this recent trend - maybe North Face is the new Fleece?

There's a TNF shop in Temple Bar and an outlet in Kildare Village and also and outlet in Arnotts. When they have a sale you can save loads. I have a couple of their bags and they're pretty good -especially the laptop one - loads of pockets and the laptop sits in just the right place so its not digging into your back.

I reckon its because they're so ridiculously overpriced! Recession + expensive stuff = trend ;)

They can be bought cheap in New York, Charlie Bird and the Rté crew seem to have a sponsorship deal with them or maybe Charlie brought them back from one of his trip abroad.

    hmmm,true that.

but most of the people who purchase these over priced (and i stress over priced) jackets may spend about 1 to 2 mins walking from their car into the office.

trust me man,i see it everyday.
The product is aimed at people who revel in hill walking, rock climbing, etc etc.but most of the profits are generated from random punters.lets be honest.

i used to fall into that catogory, now i just buy the expensive jackets at knock down prices in Tk maxx, which,is in fact, next door to the North face..ill let you have a guess where that is.

Some NF jackets look awesome, especially the furry ones.Way I see it is that if they'll last me 1 year+, they are worth the money.

Funny, i noticed this a few weeks ago too. Took an old stroll down the promenade in Salthill and there were loads of people in The North Face jackets. Id say majority of the jackets never saw a drop of rain in their lives.;) They do make some decent gear, my last goretex from The North Face was excellent and i love their Momentum Jacket. I think they are everywhere because they seem to be the dominant brand in most stores. Are they expensive? I don't think so you gets what you pay for and if you spend a lot of time outdoors it's a no brainer, i think Arc'teryx are expensive though. You can usually pick up outdoor jackets for a good price at the end of season and if you buy from the UK you'll save a good bit. I think the next outdoors brand you will see everywhere is Mountain Hardware.

Ill make it my business, when the winter months are coming in,and the days are getting shorter,to have a browse around, and see whats on offer.
and to see what the benefits are.

Its north face mate as some one who plays in uncertainness conditions most of the time I cant not recommended it, from personal use..

But jacket shells don't keep you warm its the down or fleece that does the job of warmth not the shell keeps you dry and breaths with your body... Due to the membrane layers...

but even playing golf in the rain or watching a rugby match its going to stand up to the job thats why its so popular..

Ive also used a lot ACG bye Nike which is just as good...

berghouse is int bad eather... Patagonia high end brand great gear tho

Got a North Face jacket while travelling around New Zealand. Was expensive enough but it is worth the investment coming back to Ireland. Keeps you nice and warm and dry.

I did notice when I came back almost everyone was wearing them. I only ever saw these jackets on crew and American tourists before.

I slightly buck the trend by having a nice orange one, opposed to the black everyone is wearing.
