I dont know why but im seriously considering a celica VVTI again, the only thing thats holding me back is the tax

Does anyone happen to know how much the nice older celica's 1.8/2.0L would be to tax for the year and also the VVTI 140 and 190.

Im guessing the old 1.8/2.0L and the VVTI 190 are in the €1000-2000 range

    Thanks for any input

About €700 or thereabouts. Power doesn't come into it, only the engine size. And on pre-'08 cars the emissions don't affect the tax (yet, christ only knows what Gormley will do to us in the next emergency budget).

    Edit: 1.8 is €551 and 2.0 is €614

if its the 00 Celicas up your considering make sure its a VVTL-i you get. i.e the 190bhp version.

All final shape Celicas are 1.8, both the 140 and 190 model, they are all taxed on the old cc basis so best going for the high emissions 190, best bang for buck, the vrt will be a tad more than the 140 but wort it.

i was looking at the 190's theres very little in the difference to insure them over the 140 too, i checked 123.ie and a VVTi 140 for the year is €445 and a VVTLi190 for the year is €579

Thanks for all the info, doesnt seem like much at all to tax them

Although in the current climate how much metter mpg would the 140 have over the 190?

    thanks again

If you keep out of Lift there is little or no difference with the 190 to the 140, when you are in Lift its single figure mpg that the car does.

As the previous poster said 3 mpg.
    the 140bhp delivers 36mpg and the 190 33mpg.
But remember these are only figures from Toyota and in the real world will be different.

The 190bhp engine acts basically the same 140bhp engine until you rev it above 6000ish RPM when at which point the engine engages the higher lift cams (aka LIFT) and gives an almighty kick to the engine (like the same effect as a turbo you could say)

So effectivly if you keep her below 6200RPM you'll get very reasonbable MPG (but I dont think you'll be able to resist taking it into lift every once in a while!:P)

Celica 140 is a waste of time.
