Mature student applying for B.Ed.

    Hey,
    So I was hoping to apply to St. Patricks in Drumcondra as a mature student to the B.Ed. course. The only thing standing in my way is my rather poor Irish skills. So I was wondering if anyone would be able to tell me what Irish language courses would make me eligible to apply. I was hoping for a part time one once or twice a week that would last a year.
    Any ideas?

    Do you have Hons Irish from when you were at school?
    If not, you need to do one of the following to be eligible:-

    • Minimum grade C (higher level) in Leaving Cert Irish
    OR
    1 of the following:-
    • Diploma in Arts (Applied Irish) from University College Cork
    • Dioplóma sa Ghaeilge from NUI Galway
    • Dioplóma sa Ghaeilge Fheidhmeach from University College Dublin
    • Minimum grade C in the NUI matriculation exam
    • Diploma in Irish from the University of Ulster
    • A pass in a first year primary degree examination in Irish

    There are no other exceptions.

    If you do have hons Irish, but are a bit rusty, then you're still eligible to apply, but there are many conversational courses run throughout the country to help you improve.

    Thanks for your help. Unfortunately I did pass Irish. I wonder is there a way I could sit a Leaving Cert paper solely for Irish without having to do the rest of the subjects.

    you can sit the hons irish paper solo in places like a plc college

    Of course you can!!
    I did last year!
    There's several places in Dub you can do it.
    -the institute, though V expensive
    -st plunketts (i think it is) in Crumlin
    - & there was another place. Can't just think now.

    But, you can just sit the 1 subject, no prob.

    sorry i know i was abit vague, i dont know dublin that well, but i know its slightly different but i went from pass irish to honours in 5th year and even though i didnt get primary teaching all i cared about was getting the HC3 in Irish, its tough but the joy i got in end was worth it :)
