you have to bring it into a garage theyhave a little handheld computer that they plug into ur car and it comes up whats wrong with the vehicle (ie-why the light came on) basicly it tells u exactly whats wrong with it, then they can turn it off there usually costsabout €30:o

may be a coil as they arent great.
is it down on power or spluttering .
or is there a bad smell like rotten eggs when the car is running

Did the garage give you a warranty when you got it serviced? wonder if you have any come back, if this problem is due to something that was overlooked.

No, I got it done by one of the main dealer's mechanics as a nixer..

I will give him a ring in the morning and see if he can sort it out..

Its a pain in the ar se having to pay to get the damn light turned off, I just presumed it came on automatically after a certain amount of miles..

Monkeys and peanuts , you know how it goes...

You cant blame the car because you dont look after it properly. Service light would have been reset at the dealer . Also any recalls or software/safety updates would have noted and rectified while the car was there. And its a 3 year old car , you really should be bringing back to the main dealer for now, if anything to help in the future with good will gestures if the car has any other problems.....but you pays your money

eh I do look after the car, when did I say I didn't?

It has a full service history, the mechanic only uses Renault parts and he is very thorough. Just because I don't go to a main dealer to get ripped off and get the same job done at a quarter of a price, you are judging me?

Why do you think you would get ripped off at a main dealer? How much did you pay for your last service and what was done? And someone servicing a car out of hours does not really qualify the " full service history "

Probably a lambda sensor. They give trouble on Clio's.

If all you want to do is turn off the service due message then this is possible without going to the garage, did it myself on my GFs 06 Clio.
On the right arm(I think it's the wiper arm) there's an up and down switch on the end. Put the key in the ignition and turn it but don't fully turn it(don't start the engine) and then press the button on the end of the arm down and hold it for 20seconds. This should clear the service due message.
I'm thinking the guy just forgot to do this while performing the service....

Not sure about the newer ones but on the Mk2 Clios the 'SERV' light means that there is a fault, it normally illuminates along with another warning light to show what's wrong. Is this the case, or is it definitely just the service interval light?

Saab Ed - you need to have a read of the EU's Block Exemption Regulations 1400/2002. Once OEM parts are used by an independent mechanic even a dealer warranty cannot be invalidated. So it's as good a full service history as any.

Thanks for this, I will try it at lunch time..

Where the digital mileage is show is where the "Service Due" message is shown along with an illuminated spanner at the bottom of the display.

I rang Renault this morning and the fact that the message has appeared does not necessarily mean that there is something wrong with the car, but I will get the spluttering checked out by my own mechanic as the main dealer prices are a rip off.

I tried this but it didn't work, I will just pop into the garage tomorrow and get it sorted.

Block exemption works both ways. I can tell you that in any dealer a regular customer with a full service history will be helped out greatly in an out of warranty situation. This will not be the case for a car serviced in a shed. Nothing main dealers hate more than listening to someone crying about a problem on a car thats only 3 years old and they get it serviced all the time and its a heap of sh**e yet its serviced by their buddy in a driveway. Anyway why would you spend €20,000 on a car and then try to save €40 or €50 on a service.

Turn on the ignition, but don't start the car. On the right stalk there is a toggle switch that hinges up and down, and is used for going through the different features of the display. When the display shows 'Service Due' press and hold the top part of this switch for 10 seconds until the dispaly resets and it shows 30,000km or whatever until next service.
Follow the instructions on that page. I had my details a bit arseways :o

Thats probably how its done but doesnt that really defeat the purpose, its kinda like taking the bulb out of your petrol light...

Not really. If there was a problem then the service due message would be accompanied by warning light on the dash.
The OPs original question was how to turn it off and I gave him the directions.

Yeah but how far past when it should have been serviced has the car been driven. If its 10,000km that will be 40,000km before the sevice due re-appears on the dash , thats if it makes it that far. And if it doesnt make it that far then Im sure it will be called a heap of sh**e again :pac:

The OP clearly services the car according to her own measure of need, rather than waiting for the light to go off. I'm sure shes aware what the mileage was at last service and when the next is due...give people credit for using their own minds rather than just waiting for "suggestion" lights

Thanks for this, I will give it a go in the morn..

There is 24,000km on my car, the last time it was serviced was at 22k, and it wasnt serviced on a driveway or in a shed..

The reason why I said the car was a heap of **** is because it's a crap car, nothing to do with it not working properly..
