Mad World for Wii

I had a scan through the last few pages and didn't see anything recent for this so figured I'd post a new thread to raise awareness.

Not since No More Heroes have I been so excited by the prospect of a Wii Game. Mad World reminds me of NMH cause it looks that bit different to what I'd seen before. Check out the video for the IGN review and a look at some of the excellent visuals.

I put in a pre order for i the other day and while it certainly doesn't seem to be the longest game in the world, I'm excited by the prospect of an original adult targeted game that can capture the humour and control system that the wii has been great at in the past.

So who else out there is primed and ready for this one. I honestly can't think of any other Wii game in the last 6 months that deserved a thread of it's own and I do hope that this one lives up to my hopes.

Only 5 hours of play time to complete? No thanks. I'll wait until its in the bargain bin or else just rent it and complete it in a day or two.

Hey, super mario world can be completed in 11 minutes, doesn't mean it isn't good!

I'm really looking forward to this, looks like a hoot. I think some of the low review scores are because of God Hand syndrome with the reviewers finding it too tough and just not getting it. Sounds like my kind of game :)

Im looking forward to this one, should be good provided theres not a huge controversy about it

Pre-booked mine as well. It's coming out the same day as GTA:Chinatown Wars on DS so I'll just have to get that as well.

Can't wait for the daily mail hate club to start screaming "won't someone think of the children"....always entertaining when it's quite clearly labled an 18 cert :)

    Getting good reviews anyway:

    http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/13/metareview-madworld/

    * 1UP (A-): "The design constraints of Nintendo's system forced the developers at Platinum Games to be creative, and they followed through on their creativity by putting together a thoroughly enjoyable brawler with just the right amount of the ultra-violence."

    * GamePro (90/100): "Dark, brutal and hilarious in just the right way, MadWorld is a title that has rocketed to the top of every staff member's must buy list. Don't let the fact that it's on a "kiddie console" fool you-this is one title every "hardcore" gamer needs to play, provided you're over eighteen years old, of course."

    * GameTrailers (85/100): "One of the most eye-catching games to come along in a while, MadWorld is stylish, bloody, and a great fit for the Wii's controls. Though there's a surprising amount of incentive to replay it, it's barely seven hours long, so if you aren't persuaded by the novelty of extreme violence buy with caution."

    * Eurogamer (70/100): "No matter how much the schoolboy-humour commentary grates, no matter how repetitive the bits in between the set-pieces start to feel and no matter how frustrating the later levels become, MadWorld provides a rush of blood to the head almost as often as it provides a rush of blood to the pavement."

I'd say this is right up my alley. Absolutely love God Hand, from it's unreal fighting engine to the ridiculous humour and this is made by the same guys. Going to put a preorder down.

Yea I put down the Preorder with Gamesnash when I posted above. If they keep up their usual preorder status I should be enjoying this one after work on Thursday. There really has been nothing to comment on on the Wii in so very long that this is a must buy.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,661 ✭✭✭✭Helix

i have my copy sitting here but im struggling to motivate myself to set the wii up

    this is super fun

camera is a bit (lot) iffy, but the game itself is pure carnage

dont think theres gonna be any great depth to it but for novelty violence its your only man

it crashed my wii after the first level tho

I'm going to say highly unlikely on this one - because of paddys day the distributors were 1 day behind this week so we only received stock yesterday morning. All pre orders went out with the first postal collection so we'd expect customers to receive deliveries today.

What did you expect? Sega are to blame for the recent bug filled launch of Empire Total War too. They've fallen a long way since the good old mega drive days.

its possible it was just a once off thought, im reserving judgement until later on. if it happens again itll definitely be a sign of dodgy code, but for now im putting it down to the fact that my wii has been taken apart and put back together several times, and hadnt been turned on for 6 months

The Wii has a notoriously crappy DVD drive. I've had smash bros. crash on me numerous times due to disc read errors because the drive didn't have the disc in right. It's even worse for dual layer DVD 9 games like smash bros. It could be that.

thats very possible, if it happens again ill take a look into it

    literally

i still havent put most of the screws back in from the last time i had it open so its probably a 2 minute job to have a poke around and make sure everythings lined up properly

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,661 ✭✭✭✭Helix

5 hours play today and no repeat of the crash, looks like it was a once off

this game is super super SUPER fun

This really has proved to be what I wanted from it so far. It's insanely fun and gory. I havent even managed to get much of the combo kills yet. There are moments when playing this where you just have a big smile on you're face. Some of the commentary is hilarious as well. I had to turn down the music FX so that I could hear it better.
