Tony in Eirsoft knows someone that does the paint jobs (it probably is defenderdude anyway) slap a post in the Eirsoft thread and I'm sure he will sort you out!

regarding painting your aeg - my advice is to go out and buy some krylon or similar matt finish aerosols (about €12 each), in whatever colour(s) you want and have a go yourself.
There are plenty of vids on youtube showing all sorts of finishes which can be achieved with very little effort.

oh well wrong gun then, the one i seen in store that apparently resembled that was desert tan i think, i'll have a look on youtube then

If its a bog standard Tan ye want, you can get some tan krylon paint, and some appropriate primer, plastic or metal, and some light sand paper.

Then its a matter of cleaning and keying the surface(sanding it til its a bit rough) and doing a coat of primer, keying that and doing the tan, ensuring no dirt or dust is on the surface between coats.

Use a light sand paper, 1200 grit(open to correction) and do even coats and allow them to dry properly, then you can if you want, finish in a matt laquer to give a harder finish.

well to be honest i might give it a shot, but if you screw up can you just repaint it again? because i dont fancy my chances on it being a success, or would you have to sand off all the paint and then repaint?

    Buy a 5€ toy in a shop and practice(seriously).

Painting an aeg is great craic, just think it through and prepare it.

In the case of a tan paint job, sanding, cleaning, priming, sanding, cleaning, painting, sanding, cleaning, painting will do the job perfectly.

Don't go too thick or the paint will run, do it in a methodical back and forth motion, trying to get the same ammount of paint on each time.

If the paint then wears at the edges and exposed parts under use, it will look all the more realistic for it.

    indeed - practice makes perfect...

If you get hold of krylon; dont bother with a primer - it will stick just as well, if not better without it. Unless you intend painting odd plastics (PP,PE...) or metals such as aluminium - there's no point priming.

Just give it a light sanding with something like 600 grit paper and work away with the krylon. As was mentioned - build up in light coats, painting all the awkward areas first.

If you can - get some alcohol wipes and give a clean down to remove any oils or grease. Dont bother with an aerosol matt lacquer - wont give any real improvment over the krylon and is only another cost/process to f up your work.

    Get a mask too:D ;)

Don't forget to mask off the areas you don't want paint in. Get a roll of masking tape in Woodies or B&Q. Don't be tempted to spray everything tan or whatever, you probably know this. Back in the day, a mate sprayed his model airplane bright yellow, including the engine, propeller & fuel tank. Another one sprayed the engine bay of his mini red and I mean EVERYTHING, down to the spark plug leads, both did not impress. Mask off details, it looks much better. Practice on a toy as said previously. Go slow and steady, not too close. I got the hang of it after a couple of goes.

well to be honest im not specificly looking for tan

my favourite is green tiger (red/blue tiger but just green)

do i need a stencil for this? if so where do i get the stencil?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 859 ✭✭✭StevieGriff

Make them. Or use leaves and other foliage

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 61 ✭✭Discharger09

i want digital or tiger, but they are too hard to make and cant use leaves really, if you want a good one

can anyone suggest a good camo for a G36C?

Get paper, and a stanley knife or craft knife, and cut it to make digicam, the stick on with masking tape, its been done, its just a good bit of effort.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 61 ✭✭Discharger09

i got a digi print from google images, will trace it out on cardboard and give it a shot on the wall just to see what it would look like

    cheers for help

    how much is krylon paint?
or is there any other paint you can use?
can you use hardcore grafitti spray cans?

exactly - just loads of effort (and a few nicks):p
That's exactly what I did for this M14. Loads and loads of little squares... hours of masking and cutting - 10 mins to spray...

Krylon is about €12 per can. I'd reckon you should get it if you can (no pun intended). Not the best paint out there but easy to get/use and nice n matt.

It can be gotten easy enough but in the place that cant be mentioned...

That said - I dont actually use it.

hey defenderdude, thats the exact job i want done, but i literally cant trace, my hand wont stay steady enough, could you send me some of your stencils?

would 8 euro get me much?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,641 ✭✭✭zero19

That M14 is a beauty Aiden! Very nice, seen someone elses effort at digital and it doesn't look half as nice as that

Suffice it to say, reputation goes a long way.

What other brands are easy to get, and good?

    I used hykote, and plasticote.

paints for cars etc. for a fiver, how would these stand up to use?

I've been experimenting with brands, so want to keep improving the toughness of finishes. I'd like to do a satin black next, for a kalash ak, to bring the finish closer to real steel.

I'm sorry man, I used masking tape for most of it and needless to say - once it's used it's binned.
Believe me - I wish it was easier as it's the same work every time you want to do it.:(

Get a good craft knife kit and some good masking tape... take your time, it's just practice, practice, practice...

Dont bother trying to trace - just draw a blocky design and work from there. I'm not kidding when I say it will take hours - but you can do fewer / bigger blocks which are much quicker and easier.

No consolation and it's a clichee but; you will get out of the job - as much as you put in.
Take your time and dont start the job unless you have everything ready, fully thought through the process and have a place to work in peace over the time it takes to complete the job.

The other / faster alternative is just to cut out a few stencils from cardboard and use them over and over on the job. Much easier but might not give the sharpness you require. 100 times quicker tho.;)

    Totally agreed.

I'm not sure what other brands are out there (easy to get, that is...)
I use a 2k acrylic polyurethane which needs to be sprayed with a gun/proper setup (isocyanate hardeners...).

I've not seen the RS AK's close but I'd imagine they are chemically blackened as opposed to painted? Drop me a pm as I should be able to sort you with something much better than those you mentioned.

the prices are listed on the website. shipping was about $12 dollars for 3 stencils.
Arrived in less than a week.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 61 ✭✭Discharger09

    okay thanks
so is the best thing to do for making your own stencils to make the stencil then test it on a wall or something, and if it looks good test it on a crappy gun?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 61 ✭✭Discharger09
