hope this is in the correct place - it seems confusing how to reg a name .

how does a would be performer register their name as an ie domain

( its a slightly diff spelling of their personal name - and has been already regd by them on *.com , *.co.uk
    etc )

is it possible - as they will not have personal id to say this is their name . ( like a bill or a license etc - due to it being a maky uppy twist on their name ?

    thanks alot in advance

I very much doubt this would allowed under the personal name rules. They are quite clear on what is allowed, and require you produce ID evidence before activating your domain.

The best bet would be to register the nickname as a business name with the CRO (it's cheap!) and then apply for the domain stating the registered business number you will receive. RB name takes a couple of weeks, btw.

ok, but would that mean they would have to tun the name as a business and file tax returns etc ( at the moment they are only a PAYE nobody )

seems alot of hassle to create an irish webpage

You just need to register it as a business name, no need for tax returns etc. Costs about 30 quid i think

I though they were a performer? Either way, it's easy to register a trading name if you want to be a sole trader.

Though, in all seriousness, if you've got the .com - just stick with that, it's better.

No, that would be setting up a company. Anyone can register an RBN. I just did it this week. 20 quid online at www.core.ie, you fill in an online form - print out the resulting PDF and send it in with a cheque.

Look at www.iedr.ie for the rules though - it may not be allowed as a personal name, but it may be allowed as a discretionary name, once you can prove your claim on it.
