Cover letter writting

This is probably covered somewhere but I'm getting flustered trying to write this and as a result nothing is sinking in.

I always have trouble writing a letter. I know what I want to write in it but I just have no idea of the structure which makes me just stare at a blank page.

I did get my first paragraph out, what job I'm applying for and where I saw the job.

I'm dyslexic and my biggest problem with writing is putting everything together. I normally just end up confusing the hell out of people.

Well, you come across clearly in your post for what it's worth :)

Use the cover letter to briefly match your experience / qualifications / strengths with the key ones that are listed in the job advertisement. Talk about how they can benefit from hiring you in the role. You have more flexibility to personalise a cover letter to a company than you do with your CV.

Any employers here able to give thoughts on what they like to see in a cover letter?

I've always just written a really brief letter saying I'm a student, I'm looking for part-time work for whatever period, I'm available to work whenever, will take any job, etc.

Of course I put it nicer than that :)

I would have assumed (a) nobody wants to read anything lengthy in a CL, and (b) all the fluffy talk about your skills, etc., is completely pointless.

    Any thoughts?
