[Tour of Duty] Build up to Tet 1968 (The Fort, Fife, Scotland, 25-26th April 2009)

    Ok folks, AI magazine have put up a website for the four-stage Vietnam theme event running this year called "Tour of Duty". Each game carries over into the next with the culmination being the fight for Hue city in after the Communist Tet offensive in 1968.

    Main website

    Now's your chance to play uncle Sam or Victor Charles.

    First up is the Fort in Fife, Scotland on April 25th and 26th.

    In order to prepare for the upcoming Tet offensive, the NVA and VC needed to move massive quantities of men and materials into South Vietnam. The US forces are to monitor, gather intelligence, and distrupt as much of this movement as possible.

    God/ess I hate those ;$%&* stupid websites that go click every time you mouse over something. I just want to beat crap out of whoever designed them. GRRRRRRRR :mad:

    Anyway, I added the dates.

    And just to get you all "in the mood";

    Clicky

    Took me ages to find the intro to Tour of Duty with the original theme - paint it black - (bloody music studios not allowing the DVD releases have the original period music!! grrr)

    That would be some serious money in fairness would it not? To attend all four?

    Ticket prices are not up yet, but numerous dates abroad, travel expenses. All four dates might be financially taxing : /

    It is something I would definitely be interested in. I will be in PR3 for start of April, end of april might be too early for another trip. But the other three are looking like possibilities for sure.

    I will put myself down for 2-3 events. This totally depends on the numbers/people wishing to travel with me.

    Richie, this sounds like boyz on tour 09 mate >:)

    Well, the first event requires f*ck all planning from me since I know the route and the general distances times involved since I'm half-Scot. Roughly hour and a half to two hours drive up to Larne; swift ferry (1 hour) to Cairnryan, two hours to Glasgow. Visit family briefly. Drive another two hours to the game site.

    Event tickets are £55 and are already available. Camping on-site, and they've said that if there's enough people about, they'll run mini ops over friday evening that will have limited bearing on the weekend event itself.

    Ferry is cheaper than the ferry for PR3 (I've already checked). Otherwise, it's a flight into Glasgow International airport (NOT Glasgow-Prestwick; ryan air ... no AEGs), and either train or coach from there. Train can be had from Glasgow central to pretty much about anywhere else in the UK.

    Second event is on at the same time as Berget 7 in Sweden which is unfortunate though. The events are spread out enough though so I wouldn't have thought them difficult to attend.

    £55 for just one event ? I'm sorry but I just cannot read their site its ****ing awful.

    Might get myself stuck into a few of these.
    Being foreign legion commander I'm assuming you have a detailed travel itenary already done out :P

    Yes, and absolutely sh1te. Never heard of accessibility guidelines, obviously. I gave up trying to find the locations and prices for the other 3 events after 20 minutes and went to the other websites.

    Back in the world from the big freedom bird man!

    What a fantastic weekend! There are videos and photos being put up by folks, and of course AI magazine were in attendance as well. The Fort is amazing and so suited to VN games; the staff are great (and completely bonkers), the players were great (and completely bonkers). All in all ... nyom.

    And proof I was there for all the unbelievers;
