Portmanteaus

I was over in Fashion & Appearance (idly fingering through the silky frilly things) and there I found a thread about leggings for men. This has brought to mind a pet hate...the overuse of portmanteaus to represent anything that crosses over between genders.

Most commonly is 'Moobs' for us poor misshapen males with generous breasts. These appendages have occasionally been referred to as 'Chesticles' but at least that one makes me smile. However there are more and more of these bastardised words appearing.

Take for example the male bra. Now 'bra' is a good word, we all know what it is, what it does and what it represents so why the hell did someone have to go and call it a 'Bro' just because it's for a man.

What about Mankinis or Manties.
Murses and mantihose?

Latest in this list of horrors come the aforementioned leggings...yes you guessed it, meggings. <Throws up hands in disgust>:eek:

Now I love wordage manipuplay as much as the next man but some of these words are heading for dictionary definition due to their current usage.
Don't let it happen. Leggings are leggings. Down with Meggings!
