Does anybody know where I can get some old photographs duplicated, and how much that might cost? Somewhere around Liosban/ east of city would be handiest.

    Thanks for any info!

To duplicate the photo it'll either be scanned or photographed. High resolution scanners are rare enough. Most the ones you get in shops are fairly lame when it comes to making good big copies. Most modern digital cameras would give much better results.

If you have a digital camera I'd give that a go yourself as it may work out. You just need to fix both the camera and the photo so neither can move. Don't just hover over the photo and take a shaky picture from the hand.

I would go to a place that supplies printing - ask if they have a scanner that does 320 dpi. iSupply has been mentioned on boards before but I don't know anything about them. There is also a place across from Olympic Physique in the industrial estate that houses Harry's Cycles etc.

This would likely give better results than a digital camera would - the lighting control etc. that is necessary from the camera method would be difficult enough for an amateur to achieve - or even a professional without the right equipment (full spectrum lighting would be necessary - not cheap)

i think theres a place that specialises in old photographs duplicates and restoration down the west. Around the corner from the blue note, beside stranos?

Is it still there? I thought that's where the antique-y shop moved in to.
I could be wrong though, and it's next door, if I am, yeah, I remember seeing examples in the window of restorations.

Camera/photo shops sometimes do good ones. If there's a good shop you use, ask in there too.

I'm sure I've seen posters in the Eyre Square centre for someone who does this, mmm ... perhaps the ground floor down near the ABC bookshop end ...

One warning: were the photos taken by a professional photographer, ie do they have a company stamp on the back? If so, then any of the professional places _should_ refuse to duplicate them, because the copyright is owned by the original photographer. Not sure how widely this is enforced here, but the better places should. If this is the case, then the DIY approach with a digital camera is the best you can do.

Cool. Is Stranos open again?? Or do you just mean the building.
You never know what will pop up in that row of businesses - the thatch shop was used for something arty during the festival too :)
