Talent or Money

Just wondering what choice would you do with your life? would you rather be an extremely gifted musican eg. Rory Gallagher or given e100 million at birth?

I'd more likely pick musican, playing to the crowd and possible fame would entice me but the chance of failure always loom. Then again, proper investment would make u and your e100 million fairly famous.....

    Any thoughts?

Neither are appealing(famous or rich from birth).

Well obviously your not gonna be a talanted musican from birth. Both would become relevant by your late teens.

Money, cos then you could buy talent, along with happiness.

I don't think you followed, I did not mean famous from birth. Although we could do with a truman show!

Having €100 million from birth will give you very little appreciation of the true value of having that amount of money because it is your base perspective of what life is. The privilege others would see you as having would just be normal for you. So as a result any holiday you take, any fancy hotel you stay in, would just be another day in your very own normal day to day life.

So, I would probably choose having an amazing talent instead because it is something you can see having a dynamic impact on your life as you progress through the years. If it earns for you, either through life enrichment or material gain, what you do earn is going to be a lot more appreciated every step of the way, rather than having everything laid out and handed to you from birth.

Point taken Tar, my mistake, but i would ask why would'nt it be appealing to be famous if it meant you were really talented and bringing joy to so many people?

Money cant buy talent so circumstance would dictate talent...

Who am I kidding, gimmie 5dolla.

I'd just take the money. Although, can we up the amount to 100 Billion, because 100 Million isn't really that much nowadays...

Ok, they say 'it doesn't make you happy' but I honestly think only poor (in relation to someone filthy rich) people say/think this and sure if it really made you that miserable, you could just give it all away to charity and bingo - you're suddenly famous!

If you were a really good musician worth your salt, you'd probably be dead by the age 27..

I never knew Rory Gallagher was talented.

Sounds good if you put it like that user named. :pac:

Would prefer a normal life over what many stars have. Many reasons, privacy, relationships and friends(do they like you or the star or the money or?) etc. Wouldn't mind being super rich, talented and famous I suppose, if you twisted my arm!

Q mags best guitarist ever, but what do they know?

I see where your coming from Tar, Britney Spears type of harrassment....Thats why I said Rory Gallagher, talented but was never really mainstream, still made enough to be going on with.

Mozart wrote twinkle twinkle little star at 3.

I already am a talented musician, but I am extremely lazy and its wasted on me, it's terribly depressing. I'll take the cash.

The money, screw the fame I will buy that with my money if I want it.

    Fame doesn't equal talent.

See: Jade Goody Famous not talented, Nick Drake Not Famous but Talented.

Talent and skill are 2 different things. You can buy skill, talent is in your skin or bones or soul or whatever.

    Better guitarist are you?

Rory Gallagher is the best musician this country has ever produced, imo.

    The money runs out eventually.
Talent goes out of fashion eventually.

I'd rather take my chances with the money.

Isn't that just something poor people say?

I'm a misanthrope so I would choose money. You can have all the talent in the world but it invariably means having to interact with other people to make the most of that talent. With €100m I could just lock myself off from the rest of the world (eg like JD Salinger) and just live a long, happy and pointless life in peace.

    Show me the money !!

$100 miilion at birth (well invested) could be worth close to $1 billion by the time I was old enough to actually spend it (at say 18).

Talent and poor generally leads to premature death.
