    Hi,

I want to try wearing red lipstick for a night out but never worn it before. Usually I concentrate on my eyes and leave my lips nude. I have blonde hair, blue eyes and am pale enough though usually wear fake tan on nights out. So does anyone have an idea what shade of red I should use. Don't wanna look cheap or tarty, but I don't know what shade would suit my skin. Any advice appreciated.

It's very hard to pull off red lipstick - just look at C. Aguilera. Atrocious.

Au contraire, Vinta81 - it's not that difficult to pull off red lipstick as long as you follow the two cardinal rules: pick the right shade and play down the rest of your make-up so you don't look like a complete trollop.

OP, the always awesome beaut.ie has written about this before here and here, with really good advice and suggestions for how to get a shade that's right for your skin tone. I use Chanel's Rouge Allure in Passion which is gorgeous but I've also heard good things about MAC and Lancome's red lipsticks.

Ask the girls at the make-up counter to apply it to you before you buy; you don't want to end up with the wrong colour.

Oh i love my red lippie...

in the winter i wear a red with a blue undertone, and for summer a wear a coral red colour, which is really nice on blonde haired people with a bit of a tan.

    Go for it....red = Sexy

Hey OP, I went into MAC in Brown Thomas and told the girls I was looking for a red lipstick and which shade to go for.

I got to try loads anyway, I ended up with this cool off-red, with a peach glaze.

Id try MAC, their lippies are so strong.

I love benefits lippy "nice knickers", I know the names a bit naff, but I love the red lip look,(Ive pale skin and light blonde hair) but I found it really hard to pull the look off without looking a bit like 4 year old putting on my moms make-up, doesnt mean it will with you, I just know from trial and error on myself this shade works well, I think its cause its slightly more winey then bright red but gives me the red lip look nonetheless, I love it:)
