Hi, I do a lot of photo work on top of the video work I do for a living and I need a new display. Can anyone recommend a good display for photo work? Any of the Dells any good? I'd be hooking it up to a MacBook for the moment, so DVI I suppose ...

I'm in the same boat as you.
What sort of budget do you have in mind?

I'm thinking of getting the apple 24" LED Apple Cinema Display - its around €710 up north or €850 down here. Meant to be the cheapest IPS display around. It only connects to the latest Macs/Macbooks with the mini display port and it has a glossy screen which some people find offputting.

They have one connected to a MB in Spectra on Grafton Street if you're in our nations capital. iPhoto images look amazing on it.

I got the 24" Dell Ultra Sharp recently. I am very impressed with it but have yet to hook it up with my MBP

    for photo work
Cinema Displays, anything NEC really, Dell Ultrasharps (prefereably slightly older 2nd hand -- they used the same panels as the cinema displays) ....and invest in a colour calibrator!!

I have a HP LP2275W which is quite good - its an S-PVA panel. I hope to calibrate it soon.

    22" screen - 1680x1050 resolution
    DVI,Displayport connections
    adjustments: raise/lower,swivel,tilt,pivot
    review here
was about €370 delivered from www.elara.ie

There's also a 24" from HP - HP LP2475W a similar spec and performance to the 22" but with

    - 1920x1200 resolution
    - H-IPS panel (newer variation on IPS)
    review here

    The 24" is €500 from dabs.ie

The reviews I linked to are from www.tftcentral.co.uk and measure colours, contrast, viewing angles, black depth etc. before and after calibration. TFTCentral also has a section explaining the TFT panel technology.

http://www.flatpanelshd.com/panels.php is also useful for finding out if a screen your considering is IPS or PVA etc.
