Where is my RTE 1 + 2 coming from ?

I am living a few miles south east of Fermoy Co. Cork.

My TV3 and TG4 are coming in on a UHF horizontally mounted aerial facing west.
    CH 27 + 31, Mullaghanish I presume.

My RTE 1 + 2 are coming in on VHF.
I have a 6 element vertically mounted VHF aerial facing North.
On my 2 tv's, I can't get it to show the VHF channels D to I.
On one tv RTE 1 is on 183 Mhz and RTE 2 is on 207Mhz.
On the other tv RTE 1 is on Ch 6 and RTE 2 is on Ch 10.

As my TV3 + TG4 aerial is pointing west and the VHF aerial is pointing North, am I correct in saying my RTE 1 + 2 are not coming from Mullaghanish ?

    Am I getting my RTE 1 + 2 from a relay of Mullaghanish ?
And if so, which one ?

Or is it coming from a different transmitter altogether ?

Hope this helps! I nicked this from Cork Radio.

    VHF-H
    Band 3
    MHz VISON SOUND
    MHz MAIN TRANSMITTERS
    D(5) 175.25 181.25 (V)Mullaghanish(RTE1)
    E(6) 183.25 189.25 (V)Maghera(RTE1) (H)Kippure(RTE1)
    F(7) 191.25 197.25 (V)Mt. Leinster(RTE1)
    G(8) 199.25 205.25 (V)Mullaghanish(NET2) (H)Truskmore(NET2)
    H(9) 207.25 213.25 (V)Maghera(NET2) (H)Kippure(NET2)
    I(10) 215.25 221.25 (V)Mt.Leinster(NET2) (H)Truskmore(RTE1)
    J(11) 223.25 229.25

Looks like Maghhera on one and Maghera/Mount Leinster on the other. Here is the site http://www.geocities.com/corkradio/tvch.html

I'd say your rte 1 and 2 are coming from Mullaghanish, think its the only VHF down south direction. I used to have my vhf aerial pointing in a very weird direction to get mullaghanish before I changed to a relay.

    Thanks for the info.

Surprised signal is coming from so far, because I have perfect reception.
But the area where I live is up quite high, so this may help.

I presumed I was getting my TV3 and TG4 from Spur hill on UHF and RTE 1 + 2 from Mullaghanish on UHF untill I went checking today and found TV3 on CH27 and TG4 on Ch31.

    Well there you go,
    Thanks again for the info.

Your RTE 1 and 2 are coming from Maghera in Co. Clare.
Its likely the terrain where you are favours that transmitter rather than Mullaghanish for those.
Your Tv3 and TG4 (27 and 31) are from Mullaghanish however, as the Maghera UHF channels (66 and 68) are less favourable than the Mullaghanish ones for long distance reception so the installer probably found Mullaghanish to be best for UHF (the other way round for VHF).

Can you get any channels from South-Coast TV where you are?

    Thanks Antenna.

Im surprised at the quality of RTE 1 + 2 at the distance I am from the Mast in Co. Clare. Perfect clear picture, strong colours. I think it is a warmer picture than satellite. But as I said already I am up fairly high and probably have a clear line of sight.

Yes, I have a vertically mounted UHF aerial facing East to the Commeraghs receiving Southcoast, BBC1 CH69, BBC2, ITV1 and S4C and somtimes a faint outline of CH4.

These channels are poor quality. I don't use them much as I have a free to air satellite.

My 2 UHF aerials are Triax 10 element Yaggi's and I think are much better quality than the usual contract aerials, but maybe I would need an 18 element or some type of "X" aerial for the Southcoast.
Anyway I suppose the Southcoast Analogue will be ending soon and with the Satellite I don't need it.

Deflector licences expire on 31st Dec 2009, no further extensions.

    Thanks The Cush.

I wonder how SouthCoast digital is doing ( Membership/Quality) ?
