Volkswagen Key Programming

I want to get a spare key for a VW Golf. The problem is that its one of the flip-out keys with an immobiliser chip and central locking chip embedded in it.
I can get the key cut, and I can program the central locking section myself, but I have no way to code the immobiliser chip.

Anyone know of a place where I can get it coded? In Cork preferably.

VW dealer is the easiest option.

I'm not sure if a Volkswagen dealer would be willing to code the key if I didn't purchase it from them.

And yes, as far as I know any locksmith can cut the key, but it won't work until the immobilser is coded.

ive asked 2 locksmiths about my car,(its a skoda, near identical keys) and they said they couldnt cut the key

    Why?

They do the work - they charge you for it - they make money. Why wouldn't they?

Fair point Crosstown, I'll give them a ring tomorrow and find out.

It need to be a specialist locksmith. They have a specific machine for doing the keys. Got mine done in walkinstown. Still havnt got it coded - think its 80 quid from the dealer. Some lads with vag-com can do it - you need a special security code or something.

I have a 2006 caddy and I have a key but I have no Fob for the central locking. If I buy and second had one from a scrap dealer is it possible for me to get the remote central locking working I dont care about the ignition as I'm going to use the key i have to start the car. If it is how do i go about programming the remote to work with my Van

    Not a VW, but..

I needed a new key for my 08 Corsa recently. Opel in Waterford quoted me €130 nett, for the key + programming. Vauxhall in Newry sorted me out for £72 all in.

Possibly not worth the drive up North just for the key, but if you're going up anyway, for shopping or whatever, there's a saving to be made.

Well i got it kinda sorted for a tenner. I have 2 keys already for my Van but all i wanted was the central locking working. So what i did was I went to a scrap dealer and asked for a VW key between 2004 and 2007 he gave me a SEAT 04 key. I paired this with my VAN and I ahve the cental locking working now.

Got a new key from Skoda dealer recently for my Golf and the total cost was rediculous. Luckily the dealer I had bought the car off was charged for it. But the coding cost in the region of €60 on the invoice I asked for.

    • Key Blade (ordered by the local dealer using VIN) 60euro took a little over a week to arrive
    • Transponder section (Electronics bit of the key for remote central locking/ immobliser) 70euro
    • Programming the key to ECU for immobliser, central locking and alarm functionality 60euro

99 VW Golf Diesel and 03 Audi A6 Avant TDI 130(AWX)

99 Golf about 140 euro for remote key programmed in.
03 Audi about 185 euro for remote key programmed in.
Dealers might be cheaper but you can wait up to 10 days.Usually locksmith will do the same day.

You need to buy the key and get it cut (100 eur)- some locksmiths will do this. I will find out who does it in Cork because a buddy did this for his Audi. He told me he was able to code the key using his original key and a sequence with the ignition and the door lock. Using the original key will code your second key.
I'll e-mail him tomorrow and see what he says.
    It can be done alright.
EDIT: Just read Mr locksmith - Cuneens in Cork

I have got new keys cut and new remote key fobs.I have the fobs programmed so that they will open and close the doors remotely (this is the easy part by putting original key in ignition and opening and closing drivers door in a certain sequence). It is the second part of the key fob which holds the transponder that needs to be coded to the car so that it will start.

I went throughout this with my old golf. Basically VW do not give their immobiliser codes out to locksmiths so The only option is to go to a vw garage.

    Cost me €100 I think :o

Depending what year the car is and what IMMO version is fitted you may be able to get the key cloned. There are several specialist locksmiths that do this. They take your existing key and read the transponder code from it. They then program the transponder in the new blank with this code. I'm not sure about cork but there's definately a locksmith in the Ilac centre in Dublin offering this service.

    Hi

I work at Blackwater Motors in Vic Cross and yes we would be happy to attempt coding your key, however in the past we have had some trouble coding keys that were sourced outside the network (Ebay, Eastern Europe for example), but sometimes they do work. Its a bit hit and miss.

The cost of coding is €45, this would have to charged even if the coding does not take as the key was not supplied by ourselves.

PM me if you would like us to try.

    CorkVAG,

Would you provide complete 3 button FOB + Key cut + programmed? if yes, how much do you charge? I need it for my 2003 passat.

    Thank you.

i was asking. the key came today and i tried 4 locksmiths and none of them would do it for me. some said they had not got the machine and one said 90 euro and he would cut his own non flip key? i have one of them and wanted a flip key so i would be paying 90 euro for somthing i didnt want? I was supplying the blank and when that put them off I asked if they have blanks to suit flip keys and they dont do them.

Where do people in waterford get VW, Audi, Skoda or Seat keys cut? I just need the blade cut no coding.

just noticed that, you have to pay even if it doesnt work. Jaysus that would be worse than getting clamped

if someone has vag com cant it be coded that way?

also I was watching a video of a guy in England who got an ebay flip key cut for free because they couldnt garantee the work as they didnt supply the blank! shame people here cant do you any favours

    All,

Amien Street locks smith cut VW keys if anyone is looking for. I went to them for my passat 2003 and they quoted me 50 euro just for the key. FOB + programming needs to be done at the dealer seperately.

    Thank you.

can someone please explaine why it is so expensive to get a vw key cut? 50 - 100 euro for a non chiped key that will open the doors seem crazy, 5 euro MAX is what I would thought it would cost.

Can some one please justify why they are so dear here?

There are sellers on ebay that will cut the blank from a picture.

I've found this to be the cheapest way of getting it done by far.

The problem with coding the key arises if it is a secondhand key with a used immobiliser chip.

Immo 3 cars require a brand new virgin transponder, earlier immo versions could work with previously adapted transponders, so older cars can use a secondhand key, newer you need a new key or to fit a virgin id48 transponder and then code it.

Checked ebay, £12 for the blade including cutting, id48 transponder is around £5

For coding you need the skc or someone with VAGtacho to extract it and VCDS aka Vagcom to code the new key.

I could do it, but I'm in Dundalk so a bit far away I'd say.
