HP Boot Problem

    Hi,
I have a laptop that I've had for 14months...the problem which happened out of the blue, nothing new installed or hardware added is on bootup I get the notification that "We apologise for the inconvenience but windows did not start successfully." etc etc and it gives me the option of starting in

    Safe Mode
    Safe Mode with Networking
    Safe Mode with command prompt
    Last known good configuration
    Normal Start

But no matter which option I use all I get is the windows logo then a blue screen for about 2 secs with a warning (which I don't get to read) and at the bottom Technical information in the form of

    STOP: 0x00000024 (0x00190203.0xBAD09268.0xC0000102.

I really didn't get it all but if that tech info is needed I'll look again & again.

After the blue screen it just flicks off and starts with the safe mode screen again.

From that little info can anyone tell me what might be causing it or how to fix it, no recovery disks came with the laptop.

And I'd like to recover some files on the harddrive if possible.

    Cheers

    HP Pavillion DV9088ea
Windows XP Media Centre Edition 2005, SP3
    Centrino Duo

Try a Repair Install of Windows XP.

It will not delete any of your files or programs.

Instructions on how to run a repair install....

    1. Boot the computer using the XP CD. (Might have to change the boot order in the BIOS).
    2. When you see the "Welcome To Setup" screen, you will see the options below
    3. Press Enter to start the Windows Setup.

Press ENTER. do not choose "To repair a Windows XP installation using the Recovery Console, press R",
    4. Accept the License Agreement by pressing F8 and Windows will search for existing Windows installations.
    5. Select the XP installation you want to repair from the list and press R to start the repair.

Should repair the install of Windows without deleting your Files/Settings etc.....

    Definitely worth a shot.......

Thanks for the advice, I'll give it a try.

Should I have an XP disc from when I bought the laptop?

Thanks for all the advice guys.

What I did in the end was, as I was looking for a copy of xp accidently found the recovery disks I had made when I got the laptop  (didn't even remember making them).
I tried a "R" recovery, but just kept getting the same blue screen and msg. So bit the bullet and went for a "F" full reinstall.

Had to do it 3 times cause after the first 2 attempts I got a msg saying, "NTLDR is missing, Press Ctrl, Alt, Del to restart"

After the 3rd time I turned on the computer connected my external HDD and looked for when I last backed up,
thank god it was only back in December so i lost next to nothing.

Happy ending and lesson learned BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP

    @ gwenuska,
Mine didn't come with any disks, everything was preinstalled. Hope you get it sorted.
